Description
Naoto Shirogane is a first-year high school student and the fifth-generation heir of the renowned Shirogane family of detectives. She arrives in Inaba at the request of the prefectural police to assist in the investigation of a series of bizarre murders. Despite her youth, Naoto has already built a reputation as a brilliant detective, earning the media nickname "Detective Prince." She lost her parents at a young age and was raised by her grandfather, a detective who mentored her in the family profession.

Naoto's public persona is calm, collected, and formal, with a serious and professional demeanor that makes her appear older than she is. She is highly intelligent and logical, often relying on deductive reasoning and systematic analysis. However, beneath this composed exterior, she struggles with deep insecurities related to her age and gender. Because the police force is predominantly male and often dismissive of younger investigators, Naoto has chosen to present herself as a man, wearing a male school uniform and binding her chest to hide her feminine features. She uses typically masculine speech patterns and posture in an effort to be taken seriously as a detective, modeling herself after the fictional male sleuths she admired growing up.

Her primary motivation is to solve the Inaba murder case and prove her capabilities as a detective. She believes that being accepted as a competent investigator requires suppressing her identity as a young woman. This internal conflict reaches a crisis when she deliberately uses herself as bait, appearing on television to draw out the killer, and is kidnapped into the Midnight Channel. There, her repressed feelings manifest as a Shadow in the form of a robotic version of herself, which threatens to surgically modify her into an adult male. After confronting and accepting this Shadow, Naoto gains the ability to summon a Persona, initially Sukuna-Hikona and later Yamato Takeru, which represents her acceptance of her true self and her belief that size and appearance do not determine one's worth.

Within the story, Naoto initially works independently, skeptical of the Investigation Team's methods. After being rescued and joining their ranks, she becomes a core member, contributing critical investigative insights and combat support. She plays a key role in identifying the true culprit behind the murders, using her forensic skills and logical reasoning to dismantle false leads. Her relationship with the protagonist develops through cooperation and mutual respect, and she becomes more open to showing vulnerability and friendship. She shares a particularly complex dynamic with Kanji Tatsumi, who develops a romantic interest in her; while Naoto is initially uncomfortable with his advances, their interactions help her become more comfortable with her femininity and personal emotions. Over time, the camaraderie of the Investigation Team fills the emotional void left by her isolated upbringing, allowing her to relax and act more like a teenager.

Naoto's character arc involves gradually embracing her femininity and learning that she does not need to hide her gender to be respected. By the epilogue, she has grown out her hair and adopted a more feminine style of dress, symbolizing her reconciliation with her identity. In combat, she is a versatile fighter, skilled with a revolver and able to use her Persona for powerful light, dark, and almighty magic, including instant-kill spells such as Hamaon and Mudoon, as well as multi-target almighty abilities like Megidola. Her tactical mind and sharp intuition make her an indispensable strategist for the team.
