Mary Elizabeth McGlynn is an American voice actress, ADR director, and singer with a career spanning over four decades. Born on October 16, 1966, she is widely recognized for her extensive work in English-language dubs of anime, as well as her roles in Western animation and video games. Early in her career, she was often credited under the pseudonym Melissa Williamson.
McGlynn is perhaps best known for her definitive portrayal of Major Motoko Kusanagi in the Ghost in the Shell franchise. She first voiced the character in the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex series and its sequel, 2nd GIG, a role for which she won the American Anime Award for Best Actress in 2007. She reprised the role in the film Solid State Society and later returned to the character in Ghost in the Shell: SAC2045 and its compilation film, SAC2045 Sustainable War. Her involvement with the franchise also includes voicing Lieutenant Colonel Kurutsu in Ghost in the Shell: Arise and the character in Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie.
Her other prominent anime roles include the stern and capable Cornelia li Britannia in Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection and the original series. She has been a significant presence in the Naruto universe, providing the voice for Kurenai Yūhi and Mei Terumī, while also serving as the ADR director for the long-running series, a contribution that earned her a Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation (SPJA) Award for Best Director in 2008.
