Description
Terry McScotty, also known as Tsubame Tsubakura in Japanese media, hails from Tsubakura City. His Japanese parents deliberately trained him in a Scottish accent as a tactical deception against potential enemies. Standing 130 cm tall and weighing 29.3 kg, he has light blue hair, light blue eyes, tanned skin, and distinctive pink blush marks on his cheeks. His typical attire includes a yellow outfit, a red scarf, a blue cape, and he carries a sword. Terry exhibits kindness, honesty, and maturity, often acting as the most level-headed among Yamato's companions. As a trained ninja, he approaches life with seriousness and discipline. He favors taiyaki and wields green B-DaBalls in battle with his B-Daman, Wing Ninja.
Yamato first encounters Terry attempting to knock down a pear. After a brief conflict, they become friends and journey together to train under Armada. Their rigorous apprenticeship includes rapid-shooting drills and collaboratively stopping a dam break using 100,000 B-DaBalls. Terry qualifies for the IBA Winners Tournament with a perfect score in "Shoot the Gap." He battles Bull to build camaraderie but loses due to Bull's use of a B-DaBall loader.
A pivotal moment occurs during Terry's semi-final match against Li Yong Fa of the Shadow Alliance. While practicing, Terry defeats Yamato and devises strategies for B-Daman Invasion. However, Wen and Enjyu steal and shatter Wing Ninja shortly before the match. Forced to compete with a damaged B-Daman, Terry barely survives the initial rounds. During a break, Yamato and Armada repair Wing Ninja using spare parts. In the final round, Terry unlocks his Strike Shot "Wing Fury," overwhelming Li and winning through the strength of his bonds.
During the Five Field Challenges, Terry vows to cook for the group but faces setbacks due to lack of funds. Frustrated, he storms into a city and meets Sly, who teaches him cooking skills and boosts his confidence. Terry returns to his friends and confronts Sly again during the Shield Stage challenge. He initially fails to score any points across two rounds but achieves a perfect 100 in the third round after Sly's encouragement, though he loses the match overall, reinforcing his self-assurance.
In the Elite Eight tournament, Terry faces Sigma (later revealed as Liena Vincent). He becomes discouraged by her mimicry of his moves and emotionless tactics. Despite encouragement from friends, he is disqualified after being forced out of bounds. Following this loss, he joins the group's search for Liena and helps fend off the Shadow Alliance trainer Goldo alongside Bull, combining their Strike Shots for victory.
Terry's B-Daman evolves significantly. After Enjyu destroys Wing Ninja in Tsubakura City, Joe Tetsunosuke (implied as his blood brother or close mentor) gives Terry a Blaster Core skeleton. Terry dives into B-Daman Lake, retrieves legendary parts, and constructs the upgraded Wing Sword. In the second season, he obtains the Strike Shot Random Shot, but it is stolen by Haja. During the confrontation, Joe protects Terry and is gravely injured. Terry then acquires the new B-Daman HudoFudoMaru and the Split Shot technique.
Terry participates in major group efforts against the Shadow Alliance and Neo Shadow Alliance, including liberating Gray's hometown Wintune, battling the Longhorn Gang, aiding infiltrations of Lycan and Meowtra Temple, and facing challenges like rapid-fire tests. His loyalty is evident during the Neo Shadow Alliance campaign, supporting Yamato and others in battles such as freeing mind-controlled villagers and confronting Enjyu.
In the manga, Terry develops a slight lisp, pronouncing "s" sounds as "th." Five years after the main story, he surpasses Yamato in height. His relationships include a brotherly dynamic with Joe Tetsunosuke and enduring friendships with Yamato, Gray, and Bull, often providing stability within the group.
