Description
Lu Sheng, also referred to as Mao Lu-Shen, is a supporting character in the anime Zegapain. He hails from the Shanghai server before it was corrupted, and his father was the chief executive officer of an investment company that heavily funded the iAL corporation, the enterprise central to the creation of both Cerebrum and the Gards-orm. This background places Lu Sheng in a privileged yet deeply entangled position regarding the conflict. He is the dedicated Gunner of the Zegapain Garuda, one of the ace pilots serving aboard the flying carrier Oceanus.

Personality-wise, Lu Sheng is generally calm, level-headed, and composed. He keeps a cool exterior, rarely showing strong emotions, and tends to maintain a certain distance in his interactions with others. His behavior is rooted in a sense of duty and mission accomplishment rather than personal sentiment. However, beneath this restrained surface lies a passionate and fiercely dedicated heart. He is not aloof by choice; his poised demeanor comes from a well-bred upbringing rather than any deliberate attempt to appear superior. He is rational, quick to assess situations, and prioritizes the mission above personal feelings.

Initially, Lu Sheng holds a low opinion of the main protagonist, Kyo Sogoru, viewing him as inexperienced and overly emotional. Over the course of the story, however, his perspective shifts as he witnesses Kyo's genuine abilities and sincere determination to protect those he cares about. This leads Lu Sheng to come to respect Kyo deeply, acknowledging his growth and the strength of his convictions. Lu Sheng also suspects that Shizuno Misaki knows more about the Gards-orm than she is willing to reveal, showing his perceptive and analytical nature.

In terms of role, Lu Sheng is a key combatant for Cerebrum, piloting the Garuda with skill and precision. He often participates in critical missions, such as the effort to save the corrupted Shanghai server alongside May-Yu and May-Yen. His fighting style is disciplined and effective, reflecting his methodical approach. He forms working relationships with other Cerebrant members, especially the twin Wizards May-Yu and May-Yen, with whom he pairs. While he does not seek close personal bonds, his interactions with the crew highlight his reliability and leadership in battle.

Lu Sheng's development is marked by a gradual opening up. He starts as a reserved figure who judges others based on performance, but through shared struggles and observing the resilience of his comrades, he grows more appreciative of the emotional connections that drive the team. His notable abilities include exceptional piloting skills, tactical awareness, and the capacity to remain calm under pressure, making him an invaluable asset to the Oceanus.
