Description
Kanan Gimms is a 22-year-old female character with distinctive purple hair and purple eyes, often seen wearing a dress, thigh-high boots, and a scarf. She serves as a pilot and is a member of the Reclaimers, a group originally operating from the massive mobile fortress known as Orphan. Within this organization, she acts as a partner to a younger pilot named Yuu Isami, playing a guiding role akin to an older sister and a close confidant with whom he could discuss anything.

Her personal history includes a complex about not being loved by her parents, which contributes to a sense of not fitting in easily with others. This background influences her motivations and actions when Yuu flees from the Reclaimers to the opposing faction, Novis Noah. Kanan is sent to pursue him and bring him back, but upon confronting him, she begins to experience doubts about her own path in life. Her ship, the Grand Cher, interprets her hesitation as an act of betrayal and rejects her, leading to her craft being shot down by her former allies. She is rescued and surrenders to Novis Noah, effectively switching sides.

Once aboard Novis Noah, Kanan forms a new life and key relationships. She accepts the affection of Lasse Lunberg, which helps her to clearly resolve and define her complex feelings for Yuu, moving their relationship beyond the ambiguous state of being more than friends but less than lovers. She becomes a crew member of Novis Noah and, when the twin Brain Powerd units (also known as Brain Children) are revived, she is accepted as the pilot of one of them, specifically the Kanan Brain. This makes her a core member of Novis Noah's combat forces, where she displays excellent piloting skills.

Despite her initial reluctance about leaving her home on Orphan and discovering new things, she retains her spirited energy. Her personality is also noted for her unconventional fashion sense and the attractive, mature woman image she projects. While she has deep feelings for Yuu, her character development sees her sorting through her past insecurities to find a new purpose and place alongside her new comrades.
