Mike Pollock
Description
Mike Pollock is an American voice actor recognized for his extensive work in anime English dubs, animation, and video games. Born on March 9, 1965, he began his voice acting career in the 1990s in New York City, initially working on children's videos and anime. His early entry into the industry included a guest spot on the Pokémon anime, which led to further opportunities with the New York-based dubbing studio 4Kids Entertainment, where he was recommended for roles in series such as Kirby: Right Back at Ya! and Ultimate Muscle, the latter providing him with his first major anime role as the character Meat.
Pollock is most prolifically known as the definitive English voice of the character Doctor Eggman from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. He first assumed the role in the Sonic X anime in 2003 and has continued to voice the character in numerous subsequent animated series, including Sonic Boom, and in the video game series starting from 2005. SEGA specifically retained him to maintain vocal consistency across the franchise's various media, and he has held the role longer than any other English-speaking actor.
His contributions to anime and animated film are vast and span several decades, encompassing a wide array of characters in productions dubbed by various studios including 4Kids Entertainment, NYAV Post, DuArt Film and Video, and Studiopolis. Among his many roles are Draus in The Vampire Dies in No Time, Kudo in Great Pretender, and the character of Yasui in the Makoto Shinkai film Weathering With You. He voiced the mythical Pokémon Volcanion in Pokémon the Movie: Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel and has had a long-standing association with the Pokémon franchise, taking over as the series narrator from the fourth season through the eighth and voicing recurring characters like Contest judge Raoul Contesta and Gym Leader Drayden.
Pollock's filmography includes prominent roles in major anime features. He lent his voice to Deus Prometh in the feature film Promare, Mr. Hashimoto in Liz and the Blue Bird, and Manjido in Miss Hokusai. He has also been featured in adaptations of classic and popular series, such as Teabolo Mass in Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin, Tian You in Kingdom, and roles in Giant Robo and Hades Project Zeorymer. His work often involves collaborations with specific dubbing studios and directors, leading to a consistent presence in English adaptations of Japanese animation.
