Lino Troisi was an Italian actor and voice actor, born in Maddaloni on 4 May 1932 and died in Rome on 4 May 1998. He grew up in Rome and studied acting at the Accademia Nazionale di Arte Drammatica Silvio D'Amico, building a career that spanned theatre, film, television, and dubbing. In theatre, he worked with renowned directors such as Giorgio Strehler, Klaus Michael Grüber, and Luca Ronconi. His on-screen career began in the 1960s, and he appeared in numerous Italian films and television productions, often playing character roles that made use of his commanding presence. Some of his film credits include Tony Arzenta, I'm Starting from Three, One Hundred Days in Palermo, and Il camorrista.
As a voice actor, Troisi is best known for being the official Italian voice of American actor Telly Savalas, whom he dubbed for many years in the television series Kojak. He was also active in dubbing animated works for the Italian market. One of his most notable roles in animation was providing the first Italian voice for the villain Doctor Hell in the series Mazinger Z. He also lent his voice to other anime characters, including Captain Hakab in Sampei and Tetsugoro Iwata in Pat, the Baseball Girl. In addition to anime, his dubbing work spanned live-action films, where he voiced actors such as Lee Marvin and Robert Vaughn. Lino Troisi passed away from cancer in Rome on his 66th birthday.
