Jesús Barrero was a prolific Mexican voice actor renowned for his extensive work in the dubbing of anime, animation, and live-action film and television for the Latin American Spanish market. Born José Jesús Barrero Andrade on July 26, 1958, in Mexico City, he began his artistic training at the age of nine at the Instituto Andrés Soler, the acting school of Mexico's National Association of Actors. His career in dubbing and acting spanned over four decades, starting in the late 1960s and continuing until his passing. He studied psychology but ultimately dedicated his professional life to his talent for voice acting.
Barrero's voice became iconic for a generation of viewers through his leading roles in numerous anime series. He is most famously recognized as the definitive Spanish voice of Seiya in the immensely popular series Saint Seiya (known as Los Caballeros del Zodiaco), a role he reprised for subsequent installments including Saint Seiya: The Hades Chapter - Sanctuary, Saint Seiya: The Hades Chapter - Elysion, the film Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary, and the series Saint Seiya: Omega. His other foundational anime roles included providing the voice of Koji Kabuto in Mazinger Z, the title character Meisuke Nueno (Nube) in Jigoku Sensei Nube, and Rick Hunter in the first Latin American Spanish dub of Robotech.
His portfolio extended across a wide variety of anime titles and genres. He voiced the protagonist Melos in the film Hashire Melos!. In the Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie, he provided the voice for the character Ryu in the DVD version of the Latin American Spanish dub.
