Description
Meisuke Nueno, known as Nube, works as an elementary school teacher and exorcist. Born July 21, 1968, his innate spiritual abilities caused childhood bullying. His mother died of an untreated illness despite his father Jiku's past charitable exorcism work, a tragedy that led Jiku to abandon him. Saved from a snake demon possession by his teacher Minako's self-sacrifice, this event inspired his dual path as an educator and children's protector.
He possesses red eyes, short black hair, and thick eyebrows, typically dressed in a black suit with his left hand covered by a black glove. This glove conceals the Oni no Te, a demonic hand resulting from sealing a powerful oni during his first teaching assignment. Minako's spirit, who sacrificed herself during the incident, helps restrain the oni. Nube balances a jovial and serious demeanor, prioritizing his students' safety above his own while exhibiting financial irresponsibility through gambling and generosity. He avoids romantic pursuits with minors but shows interest in adult women like colleague Ritsuko Takahashi, though his primary relationship develops with the yuki-onna Yukime.
His abilities center on the Oni no Te, channeling spiritual and demonic energy for combat and yokai communication. He augments this with artifacts: the Sutra of the White-Robed Goddess for sealing, a crystal ball for visibility, prayer beads, and kudagitsune spirits. Techniques include astral projection and spirit separation. After temporarily losing the Oni no Te, he trained under the Daitengu to master Oni no Te Neo, a spiritual blaster demanding near-total energy expenditure.
Key relationships involve protecting students like Hiroshi Tateno and Kyoko Inaba from supernatural threats. Allies include Yukime, whom he saved in childhood and later cohabitates with in Kyushu, and the reformed fox spirit Tamamo, who shifts from adversary to ally. He maintains rivalries with figures like Otsuki-sensei, who favors scientific explanations over spiritual ones.
Character development spans multiple series. In the original storyline, he teaches at Domori Elementary, combats supernatural threats, and eventually reconciles with Jiku. In Neo, set years later, he returns to Domori after Yukime restores his will to live, regaining his powers through training. Spin-offs like *Reibaishi Izuna* depict timelines where his death while protecting others is averted through time travel, altering his future to one with Yukime. Later media confirms his continued exorcism work and mentorship of former students, including Kyoko who becomes a teacher.
