Description
Kiminobu Kogure is a third-year student at Shohoku High School, where he serves as the vice-captain of the basketball team. Wearing jersey number five, his primary position on the court is small forward, though he is also capable of playing shooting guard. He stands 178 cm tall and weighs approximately 62 kg. He is known for his medium-length dark hair and his glasses, which have earned him the nickname "Megane-kun" from teammate Hanamichi Sakuragi.

Alongside captain Takenori Akagi, Kogure is one of only two players who remained with the Shohoku basketball team for all three years of high school. During their first year, many other players quit due to the intensity of Akagi's training regimen, and the talented Hisashi Mitsui left the team following a knee injury. This period cemented Kogure's role as Akagi's most steadfast supporter, sharing the dream of leading Shohoku to the national championships.

Kogure is characterized by a gentle, empathetic, and friendly demeanor, which serves as a calm counterbalance to Akagi's more stern and intimidating leadership style. He is almost never seen without his glasses and is known for being a dedicated student who does not neglect his academic studies. However, beneath this placid exterior lies a notable willpower and the capacity for brutal honesty when the situation demands it. This inner strength is most clearly demonstrated during the conflict with Mitsui, where Kogure stood his ground without flinching after being slapped and insulted, revealing the painful history of Mitsui's past to the rest of the team in a sincere effort to bring him back to basketball.

While often starting games on the bench, Kogure is the first player substituted into a match to replace a tired or injured starter, making him the team’s reliable "sixth man." He brings a combination of experience, tactical intelligence, and consistent fundamental skills to the court. Though not a prodigy like some of his teammates, he is a very good shooter, particularly from three-point range. One of his most significant contributions is hitting a crucial three-pointer against Ryonan, a shot that helped secure a vital victory. He is also considered a decent perimeter defender.

Kogure's key relationships are central to his role in the story. His friendship with Takenori Akagi is a cornerstone of the team, built on years of mutual support through the team's lowest points. His relationship with Hisashi Mitsui is one of the most dramatic; they were once close friends as first-years, and Kogure is instrumental in helping Mitsui reconcile with the team and return to basketball after his two-year absence. With the talented but troublesome rookie Hanamichi Sakuragi, Kogure is consistently patient and encouraging, always trying to help the newcomer develop his skills and understand the game, earning Sakuragi's gratitude in return.

Throughout the story, Kogure develops from a player who dreamed of a championship into a leader who actively helps make that dream a reality. His personal journey is marked by a willingness to sacrifice his own playing time for the good of the team, embracing his role as the first man off the bench with the understanding that his experience could be the deciding factor in close games. His dedication is rooted in the knowledge that, as a third-year, this is his final opportunity to compete for a national title.
