Description
Hiroshi Shiba started his career as a professional race car driver. A fatal laboratory accident led his father, Professor Shiba, to reconstruct him as a cyborg. The professor embedded an ancient bronze bell artifact from the Yamatai Kingdom within Hiroshi's chest, granting enhanced durability and the ability to survive in space. Professor Shiba concealed these modifications until Hiroshi survived a severe racing crash unharmed. After Queen Himika's forces murdered Professor Shiba, Hiroshi learned of his cybernetic nature and his destined role defending Earth. He inherited the responsibility of operating the giant robot Steel Jeeg, transforming into its head component.
Hiroshi activated his abilities through specific actions: bumping his fists together while shouting "Change Cyborg!" triggered an armored cyborg form. Repeating the action and shouting "Build Up!" initiated the transformation into Jeeg's head. This involved the Big Shooter aircraft, piloted by his ally Miwa Uzuki, launching modular magnetic components that assembled around him. He fought the Yamatai Empire's forces, especially their giant clay automata called Haniwa Phantoms, balancing his public racing life with protecting his family.
During a major Kyushu confrontation, Hiroshi battled Queen Himika. He activated the bronze bell within Jeeg, creating an energy vortex called The Zone that engulfed the region, trapping Hiroshi and Himika within a time dilation field for 50 years. After The Zone dissipated decades later, Hiroshi reemerged. He joined forces with a new generation of defenders, including the new Steel Jeeg pilot Kenji Kusanagi and Miwa's granddaughter. Hiroshi participated in the final battle against the revived Himika and her forces, utilizing his original abilities and Jeeg components once more to help permanently defeat the Yamatai threat.
Throughout his journey, Hiroshi maintained a friendly rivalry with fellow robotic heroes like Koji Kabuto. He experienced occasional struggles with self-doubt regarding his cybernetic nature and its impact on others' perceptions. His background as a racer contributed to his hot-blooded and determined personality during conflicts.
