Description
Pegasus Seiya is the central protagonist of the anime Saint Seiya. He is a Bronze Saint of the Pegasus constellation, one of the eighty-eight mythical warriors who serve the goddess Athena and protect the Earth. He is introduced as a thirteen-year-old orphan who was raised by the Graad Foundation and sent to Greece to train as a Saint under the Silver Saint Eagle Marin. The head of the foundation promised that if Seiya returned wearing the Pegasus Bronze Cloth, he would be reunited with his older sister Seika, from whom he was separated when he left for training. After enduring a severe training regimen and defeating his rival Cassius to claim the Cloth, Seiya returns to Japan only to learn that Seika has gone missing. For a time he suspects that Marin, whose appearance resembles Seika's, may be his sister, but he is ultimately proven wrong.
Seiya's early motivation is personal: he agrees to take part in the Galactic Tournament organized by Saori Kido in exchange for the foundation's help in finding Seika. Initially reluctant to fight, he gradually develops a sense of duty as he battles alongside the other Bronze Saints.
