Description
Obiguro is an assassin belonging to the organization Dondenkai and a graduate of the Japan Clear Creation academy, known by the abbreviation JCC. A 26-year-old woman standing 166 centimeters tall, she is introduced as the partner of the assassin Boiled, and the two act as the primary antagonists of the amusement park storyline, in which they hunt the retired hitman Taro Sakamoto for the bounty placed on his head. Their reputation was already formidable before this mission, as they were said to have killed more than a hundred people between them during a conflict called the Ronricco incident two years earlier, a feat that marked them as one of Dondenkai's most violent and effective teams.
She is also notable as the first female assassin to appear in the story. Her design gives her a bobbed haircut, narrow upturned eyes with a catlike quality, and a dated but distinctive sense of fashion: sunglasses, short hot pants, and heeled shoes, an outfit that draws comment from Boiled, who claims not to know where to look.
In personality, Obiguro is self-assured, sharp-tongued, and genuinely enamored with combat. She lights up in the presence of powerful opponents and can lose herself in the excitement of a good fight, sometimes treating a dangerous battle more like a game she wants to enjoy. This fierce exterior hides a softer private side. Since her early teenage years at JCC, where she was a junior to Sakamoto, she has carried an unrequited affection for Boiled. She speaks to him with a prickly attitude that conceals her true feelings, but inwardly she describes him as cool, kind, and cute. A flashback from her school days shows her at thirteen watching Boiled from behind a pillar on Valentine's Day, unable to give him the chocolate she had brought, and that one-sided attachment has gone unconfessed for over a decade.
Her abilities center on bare-handed combat in a martial art called Kousatsu-Ryu karate, and her named finishing move is a heel-drop technique. At the time she appears, her strength is considerable in comparison with the protagonists' side, placing her slightly above the early version of Shin and roughly even with Lu Xiaotang when the latter is boosted by her drunken fighting style. During the haunted house segment of the amusement park arc, Obiguro duels Lu. She holds the advantage at first and toys with the fight out of curiosity about her opponent. When Lu, pushed into a rage, briefly turns the tables, Obiguro is cornered but responds not with resentment but with genuine appreciation for Lu's skill. She decides on her own to abandon the contract, and after Sakamoto and Boiled's confrontation concludes, she leaves with her partner.
Her relationship with Boiled is the defining element of her character.
