TV-Series
Description
Kikka Makuzawa is a student at the University of Tokyo and the younger twin sister of Ouka Makuzawa. Born on March 7, she shares an identical appearance with her older sister, to the point where even their parents can mistake them for one another when she removes her glasses, a key accessory that typically distinguishes her from Ouka.
Kikka is defined by her deep, almost fierce love for her sister Ouka, whom she views as a role model. This devotion initially makes her highly cautious and protective of those around her sister, leading her to be openly critical and lacking tact with strangers, unlike Ouka who is more naturally caring and non-judgmental. Over time, however, she gradually lowers her guard, particularly with the staff of the Familia and with Hayato Kasukabe. Despite being identical twins, Kikka and Ouka are portrayed as polar opposites in many ways. Where Ouka is right-handed, Kikka is left-handed; where Ouka struggles with cooking, Kikka is proficient; and while Ouka can be warped and backhanded in her compliments, Kikka is often more genuine and sincere.
Kikka's primary motivation stems from a significant misunderstanding with her sister. When Ouka expressed a desire to enter the fashion world, Kikka announced her intention to attend the University of Tokyo. Ouka misinterpreted this as Kikka trying to replace her as the successful daughter, leading Ouka to leave home and begin living at the Familia cafe. In truth, Kikka made her choice for herself and never intended to be a substitute for her sister. Kikka followed Ouka to the cafe in an attempt to resolve the situation, but her blunt, critical remarks about the other staff members, born from concern for her sister, led to a physical confrontation where Ouka slapped her. It was only after receiving advice from Hayato Kasukabe that Kikka was able to properly explain her true feelings, leading to a reconciliation between the twins.
As a student at the prestigious University of Tokyo in the liberal arts department, Kikka shares this academic standing with Hayato. Her role in the story often involves visiting the Familia to see her sister, where she showcases abilities that Ouka lacks, such as cooking and a more naturally cute and friendly demeanor. This has, on occasion, left Ouka feeling envious. Kikka's key relationships are dominated by her connection to Ouka, but her dynamic with Hayato is also central. Initially viewing him as a worthless person due to her protective instincts, she comes to respect him after learning of his maturity and his status as a fellow University of Tokyo student. Hayato's ability to instantly tell the twins apart on their first meeting left a strong positive impression on her. Their relationship grows closer when he offers to tutor her, and despite her initial backhanded disdain for him as a dropout, she becomes friendly with him. Over time, Kikka begins to develop possible romantic feelings for Hayato. This is demonstrated by her genuine, maidenly behavior around him, which contrasts with her sister's struggle to get closer to him, and is further highlighted when she unexpectedly forgives him with a smile after an accidental, intimate mishap. Kikka's development sees her transform from a sharp-tongued, estranged sibling into an integral part of the Familia's extended circle, having resolved her family conflict and opened herself up to new relationships and personal growth.
