TV-Series
Description
Chizuru, whose full name is Mitsudera Chizuru, is a supporting character from the anime Hand Shakers. She is a twenty-five-year-old woman who works in the food service industry, but due to her petite stature of 146 centimeters, she is frequently mistaken for a much younger student. Despite her youthful appearance, she holds a position of authority and is a seasoned Hand Shaker.
Personality-wise, Chizuru is energetic and possesses a strong-willed, no-nonsense attitude that can sometimes come across as nagging, particularly towards her partner. She is a capable and competitive individual, yet she displays a pragmatic and caring side, showing concern for the well-being of other Hand Shakers even after a fierce battle. Her character is marked by a pride that struggles with defeat, but also a willingness to mentor others based on her own hard-earned experience.
Chizurus background is rooted in the corporate world. She was an exemplary employee in a food company, but her involvement in internal power struggles led to her being transferred from the headquarters to a local branch. It was there, in a new setting dealing with poor performance, that she met her future partner and subordinate, Hayate. Their relationship is central to her story; they bicker frequently, but share a deep and evident affection for one another. This dynamic is often played for comedy, as Chizurus small stature leads others, including their Hand Shaker opponents, to mistakenly assume Hayate is the one in charge.
In the story, Chizuru and Hayate initially act as rivals to the protagonists, Tazuna and Koyori. After being defeated in battle inside the Ziggurat, they are horrified to learn that their actions could have endangered Koyoris fragile health. In response, they set aside their competitive drive and become crucial mentors to the main duo. Chizuru provides practical advice, such as warning them not to openly hold hands in public as it would make their identity as Hand Shakers obvious. She also shares her knowledge of the Ziggurats rules and teaches them battle tactics from her own past experiences. Her defeat, however, leaves her feeling deeply不甘 and she becomes emotionally unsettled, which contributes to her causing a car accident shortly thereafter. Despite this setback, she continues to support Tazuna and Koyori in significant ways, such as providing resources for a school festival and offering them part-time work at her company.
Chizuru shows notable development over the course of the narrative. She begins as a proud and capable fighter, forced to confront her own limitations after a loss. She transitions from a rival to a guide, channeling her disappointment into a practical role as a teacher and supporter. In the subsequent story, Wz, this development culminates in her leaving the corporate world behind. She marries Hayate, and together they open and operate a coffee shop, which serves as a secret base for the main characters, signifying her complete transition from a combatant to a stable, nurturing figure.
As a Hand Shaker, her notable ability, reflected in her alias Dagger Shadow, revolves around speed and precise, blade-like attacks. Her coordinated fighting style with Hayate makes them a formidable team, though the full extent of their power is demonstrated through their experience, having previously engaged in prolonged, inconclusive battles with other skilled Hand Shakers. Her most significant contribution, however, is her tactical wisdom, which she passes on to the next generation.
