Description
Hyunckel is a major character in the story, a young man whose journey is defined by a deep, misguided hatred that eventually transforms into a powerful sense of justice. His background is rooted in tragedy; as an infant, his village was razed by the Dark Lord Hadlar's army, and he was found and adopted by Bartos, an undead general serving the Dark Lord. Raised by Bartos among monsters, Hyunckel grew up considering them his true family. This life was shattered when the hero Avan launched an assault on Hadlar's castle. Hyunckel witnessed the aftermath of the battle and saw Avan standing over his dying adoptive father, leading him to falsely believe Avan was the murderer.

This misunderstanding fuels his entire personality for a significant portion of the story. Consumed by a need for revenge, Hyunckel becomes a deeply bitter and wrathful individual, whose hatred serves as his primary motivation. He possesses a strong sense of honor despite his villainous role, refusing to harm those he deems innocent, such as Maam. His upbringing among monsters, who were kind to him, left him with a contempt for humanity and the heroic ideals Avan represented. Years after the incident, Avan, believing Hyunckel was a child kidnapped by monsters, took him on as his first disciple. Hyunckel secretly trained under Avan solely to perfect a technique to kill him. He created the deadly drilling attack Bloody Scryde for this purpose, but on the day of his graduation, his assassination attempt failed, and he was cast out by Avan in self-defense.

Following this failure, Hyunckel was recruited by Mystvearn, a high-ranking commander of the Dark Army, and rose to become the leader of the Undead Legion, earning the title of Dark Swordsman. In his role as an antagonist, he is sent to eliminate the young hero Dai. He destroys the kingdom of Papunika and confronts Dai and his allies, easily defeating them with his power and magic-immune dark armor. He reveals his backstory to them, believing his cause to be just. After Dai and his friends train and return to fight him, the truth is finally revealed by Maam using a magical shell containing Bartos's last words: Avan had spared Bartos, but the mortally wounded general was ultimately killed by a revived Hadlar. This revelation shatters Hyunckel's worldview, removing the hatred that had driven him. He chooses to sacrifice himself to save Dai and the others from a volcanic eruption caused by a rival general, but is rescued at the last second by Crocodine, a former enemy and fellow general he had previously spared. This event marks his defection from the Dark Army and his decision to join Dai's party, seeking to atone for his past sins.

Hyunckel's key relationships are central to his development. His bond with his adoptive father Bartos is the source of both his great rage and, eventually, his redemption. His relationship with his master Avan evolves from one built on secret hatred to a place of deep respect, as he later realizes the lessons Avan tried to teach him. He develops a grudging alliance with Crocodine, who saves his life and convinces him to join the side of good, recognizing Hyunckel's inherent honor. His mentorship under the villain Mystvearn gives him dark powers, such as the Dark Puppetry Aura Hand technique, which allows him to control skeletons and restrain enemies. Notably, the power of this technique is directly tied to the user's hatred; as Hyunckel lets go of his vengeance and fights for justice, its effectiveness diminishes. His rivalry with Dai is initially antagonistic but softens into a powerful collaboration as they face greater threats together.

Throughout this transformation, Hyunckel's notable abilities are extensive. He is a master swordsman and later a skilled spearman, adapting Avan's elemental techniques to his new weapon. He can summon his powerful Dark Armour, which repels most magic, with the incantation "Amdo". His signature technique is the Bloody Scryde, a powerful drilling thrust capable of piercing even the legendary metal orichalcum. After joining the heroes, he abandons the sword in favor of a spear and masters the elemental techniques Sky Flash, Echoing Sea Flash, and Thundering Ground Flash. In a climactic battle against Hadlar, he uses his ultimate ability, Grand Cross, a massive cross-shaped attack that channels the user's entire life energy. This ability represents the culmination of his character arc, moving from a warrior who weaponized his hatred to one who harnesses his own will and life force to protect others.
