TV Special
Description
Muruta Azrael is a primary antagonist in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Special Edition. He is the leader of Blue Cosmos, a secret society and terrorist organization that advocates for the extermination of all Coordinators, genetically enhanced humans. Azrael is a Natural, meaning he is a regular human without genetic modification, and he is thirty years old. Beyond his role in Blue Cosmos, he is also the president of a major weapons manufacturing conglomerate and a director of the Defense Industry Association, giving him substantial political and economic influence over the Earth Alliance.

On the surface, Azrael comes across as pleasant and composed, but this demeanor hides a deeply fanatical and ruthless nature. His intense hatred for Coordinators originates from a personal trauma in his childhood, when he was assaulted by a group of Coordinators. This experience drives his unwavering commitment to genocide, as he believes that Coordinators are unnatural and must be eliminated to preserve a pure world for Naturals.

Throughout the story, Azrael uses his industrial and political power to push the Earth Alliance toward more aggressive warfare against the PLANTs, the space colonies of the Coordinators. He convinces the Alliance to attack the neutral nation of Orb, and he personally accompanies the invasion force to oversee the operation and observe the performance of his latest weapons in real combat. His ultimate goal is to launch nuclear weapons against the PLANTs in an attempt to wipe out the Coordinator population entirely.

In terms of relationships, Azrael manipulates those around him, including Earth Alliance officers such as Natarle Badgiruel, treating them as instruments to advance his agenda. He is allied with other anti-Coordinator extremists but operates primarily through his own authority and resources. He shows no personal loyalty beyond his cause and does not undergo any redemption or meaningful change over the course of the narrative. His role culminates in his death, when he and Natarle are killed by the crew of the battleship Archangel during the final stages of the war.

Azrael's notable abilities are not in combat but in strategic manipulation, political maneuvering, and the control of advanced weapons development. He is a master of leveraging corporate and military channels to escalate conflict on a massive scale, embodying the intersection of extremist ideology, industrial ambition, and military power in the Cosmic Era.
