Description
Mu La Flaga is a central supporting character in the events of the First Alliance-PLANT War as depicted in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED. He is a Natural, an unmodified human, who serves as a lieutenant in the Earth Alliance's 7th Space Fleet and is widely regarded as one of the few Naturals capable of matching Coordinators in combat. He earned the moniker Hawk of Endymion after piloting a TS-MA2mod.00 Moebius Zero mobile armor in the Battle of Endymion Crater on the Moon, where he single-handedly shot down five ZGMF-1017 GINNs. This feat established his reputation as an ace pilot. His background is marked by a deeply troubled family history. He is the son of Al Da Flaga, a powerful and ruthless Earth Alliance figure who despised Mu and considered him a cursed child. His father instead showed favor to a clone of himself, who would become the masked ZAFT ace Rau Le Creuset. Mu encountered Rau once in childhood and later developed a strange, intuitive ability to sense when Rau is nearby. This connection adds a personal and emotional dimension to their confrontations. In terms of personality, Mu is outwardly carefree, eccentric, and often lighthearted, making witty or sarcastic remarks that help boost the morale of those around him. He brings a sense of confidence to the crew of the warship Archangel, where he takes shelter after his original mothership is destroyed during the ZAFT attack on the neutral colony Heliopolis. Despite his relaxed demeanor aboard the ship, he becomes intensely focused and tactical in battle, able to devise effective combat strategies. His primary motivation is to protect the Archangel and its crew, fighting bravely even when injured. He is pragmatic and judges people by their actions rather than their genetic status, which leads him to immediately accept and support the young Coordinator pilot Kira Yamato when others might harbor prejudice. Mu acts as a mentor and big brother figure to Kira, encouraging him during difficult moments and helping him grow as a pilot. He also develops a close and affectionate relationship with the Archangel's captain, Murrue Ramius, which becomes a cornerstone of his personal life and provides him with a sense of stability and purpose amid the chaos of war. His role in the story evolves from being a lone ace pilot of the Earth Alliance to a key member of the Three Ships Alliance, a coalition that seeks to end the war. Alongside his skill with the Moebius Zero and its wire-guided gunbarrel pods, he also pilots the FX-550 Skygrasper jet and, later, the GAT-X105 Strike Gundam, which Kira reconfigures to be operable by a Natural. His piloting abilities, tactical acumen, and willingness to sacrifice himself for his comrades define his development from a solitary fighter into a seasoned veteran who fights for peace alongside his long-time allies.
