Description
Miriallia Haww is a civilian who becomes a key member of the Archangel’s bridge crew during the First Alliance-PLANT War. She originally lives on the neutral Orb space colony of Heliopolis, where she is enrolled in a technical college alongside her friends Kira Yamato, Sai Argyle, Flay Allster, Tolle Koenig, and Kuzzey Buskirk. Her life is upended when ZAFT forces attack the colony in search of prototype Earth Alliance mobile suits. Forced to flee aboard the Archangel, she and her fellow students initially take shelter as refugees. After witnessing Kira’s first battles, Miriallia volunteers to help on the bridge, and she is eventually assigned as a communications operator responsible for monitoring and relaying messages to the ship’s mobile suit pilots, including Kira, Mu La Flaga, and later Tolle.

Miriallia has a cheerful, positive, and kind disposition that makes her well liked among the crew. She is mature for her age and approaches her duties with dedication, quickly learning the skills needed to operate communications equipment despite having no formal military training. Unlike some of her peers, she does not judge people based on genetic type; she maintains a close friendship with Kira Yamato even though she is a Natural and he is a Coordinator. Her primary motivation throughout the war is to support her friends and contribute to the survival of the Archangel and its crew, even when offered the chance to leave. She demonstrates resilience and a strong sense of loyalty, choosing to remain with the ship through the most dangerous moments.

Her most significant personal relationship is with Tolle Koenig, her boyfriend. The two are inseparable, though they do not show affection openly in public. Tolle’s death in battle, at the hands of Athrun Zala, devastates Miriallia. She initially lashes out in grief, even attempting to attack the captured ZAFT pilot Dearka Elsman when he unknowingly insults Tolle’s memory. However, she quickly regains control of her emotions, stops Flay Allster from shooting Dearka, and begins the long process of healing. This event marks a turning point in her character, showing her capacity to overcome hatred and embrace compassion even after terrible loss. Over time, she develops a warmer relationship with Dearka, who defects to the Archangel, and she becomes a stabilizing presence on the ship.

Miriallia also maintains close bonds with her other friends from Heliopolis, especially Kira, and with the rest of the Archangel crew. She supports them in their personal struggles and provides emotional comfort during the hardships of war. In the sequel series, she initially works as a freelance photographer, a job that doubles as a cover for her activities as an agent of the intelligence organization Terminal. She later returns to the Archangel and resumes her role as a communications operator, all while continuing to document key events of the conflict through photography. Despite the fact that Athrun Zala killed her boyfriend, she shows no lasting animosity toward him and even expresses relief when she learns he is recovering from injuries.

Miriallia’s most notable abilities lie in communications and coordination. She becomes a competent and reliable operator, capable of handling the demands of a military vessel under fire. Her experience on the bridge and her natural calmness allow her to perform effectively in high‑pressure situations. Additionally, her work as a photographer demonstrates her eye for documenting history and her quiet dedication to preserving the truth of the wars she lived through. Overall, Miriallia Haww evolves from a carefree student into a resilient, capable, and compassionate woman who finds purpose in service and in helping others endure the costs of conflict.
