Go Hou Mei serves as Wei's highest-ranking general and belongs to the second generation of the Seven Fire Dragons. He is the son of the late legendary general Go Kei. His father's defeat and death at Dakan Plains by Qin's Duke Hyou, coupled with Wei's loss of Sanyou, fuels his deep-seated desire for vengeance against Qin. A clean-shaven man in his mid-thirties, he has long, light-brown hair typically worn in a braid and is often seen wearing a mantle and helmet. His design and name, where "Feng" translates to "phoenix" (a traditionally feminine element in Chinese names), have prompted discussion about gender, though the series does not explicitly address this. Calm, highly rational, and fiercely patriotic, Go Hou Mei approaches warfare with a tactical mindset, viewing soldiers and allies as expendable pawns for strategic objectives. He demonstrates this pragmatism by sacrificing his mentor, Rei Ou, to ensure his own escape from the Hi Shin Unit, coldly rationalizing that Rei Ou had outlived his usefulness. Despite this ruthlessness, he avoids needless cruelty and seeks to minimize losses where possible. Trained rigorously by his father and Rei Ou, he rose swiftly to become Wei's Great General. During the Coalition Invasion Arc, he commanded Wei forces, deploying the complex Ryuudou formation against Duke Hyou and utilizing massive siege towers against Kankoku Pass. The destruction of one tower by Kan Ki dismayed him as a tactical setback, not a loss of life. In the Fire Dragons of Wei Arc, he orchestrated a near-impenetrable defense of Choyou using terrain and coordinated reinforcements. This formation was breached only by simultaneous attacks from Ou Hon, Roku O Mi, and Shin, leading to the fall of Wei's headquarters and his retreat – the moment he sacrificed Rei Ou. Commanding 70,000 Wei troops alongside Qin's 50,000 during the War of the Three States Arc against Chu at Gecchi Plains, he adapted after initial setbacks, including the death of general Ba Kai. He shifted Wei to a supportive role while Qin led the offensive, concurrently deploying engineering units to covertly capture Juuko City, securing it by the battle's end. His tactical prowess emphasizes inventive siege warfare, including poison research (though he considered his skill here second-rate) and specialized equipment like siege towers designed for specific fortifications. He is one of the few generals capable of executing the Ryuudou formation. His abilities prioritize intellect (Intelligence 98) and leadership (Leadership 89) over physical strength (Strength 60). He avoids direct combat, positioning headquarters far from frontlines and using body doubles or disguises to escape danger, believing his survival is paramount to Wei's interests. Later, he monitors Qin's conflicts, such as Kan Ki's defeat, and advises Wei's court during Qin's naval campaigns. He correctly deduced Qin's target as Han during an attack on Rakushi fortress, though his orders to secure the riverbanks failed to prevent the city's capture.
