Mō Ten stands as a prominent general within the Qin military, renowned for his strategic brilliance and leadership. He is the eldest son of Great General Mou Bu and grandson of the late Great General Mou Gou, anchoring him within the influential Mou family. His younger brother is the skilled strategist Mou Ki, and he holds the position of adoptive nephew to Shou Hei Kun, Qin's Chief of Military Affairs.
Born on the Mou family estate, a youthful Mō Ten displayed mischievous tendencies, frequently playing pranks on his guardian, Ko Zen. Initially disinterested in scholarly pursuits, his academic progress transformed dramatically after Ko Zen secured the services of an attractive female tutor, capitalizing on Mō Ten's fondness for women. He subsequently developed a strong aptitude for legal studies, successfully passing rigorous examinations to become a judge in Qin's legal system. His military career commenced early, seeing him participate in the Anhou Campaign as a teenager under his grandfather's command.
Physically, Mō Ten possesses a notably feminine appearance marked by long, bright brown hair (darkened in later arcs), a slender frame, and a small mole beneath his right eye, creating a stark contrast with his father's imposing stature. His attire evolved from an early pink robe to incorporating golden vambraces and a fur neckpiece, eventually adding pauldrons and a cape after attaining the rank of general.
Mō Ten's personality merges approachability with tactical cunning. He maintains a friendly, outwardly carefree demeanor, often joking with allies like Ri Shin, yet this masks a sharp strategic intellect and a readiness to leverage his family's influence. He demonstrates fierce loyalty to his family, recklessly intervening to protect his grandfather Mou Gou from Ren Pa and shielding his father Mou Bu during the Battle of Kankoku Pass, where he narrowly survived being struck by Chu commander Kan Mei.
Acknowledged by Shou Hei Kun as one of his finest students, Mō Ten is a military prodigy. He excels in swordsmanship, emphasizing precision, deflection, and decisive counterattacks. He has parried blows from formidable opponents like Kou Yoku and Zhao general Ba Nan Ji, exploiting openings to inflict critical damage, such as destroying Ba Nan Ji's eye. His leadership shines through his command of the Gaku Ka Army. He effectively boosted morale during the Sanyou Campaign, enabling his unit to clash with elite Wei veterans under Rin Ko. During the Western Zhao Invasion, he prevented the collapse of the Ma Kou Army after its commander's death, reorganizing the remnants and earning a temporary promotion to general by Ou Sen.
Key campaigns chart his career. At Sanyou, as a 1000-man commander, he orchestrated the coordinated attack that eliminated Rin Ko, leveraging the Hi Shin and Gyoku Hou units. During the Coalition Invasion, he served under General Tou, survived encounters with Kou Yoku and Haku Rei, and commanded Qin's right wing. His tactical acumen was further showcased on the Shukai Plains during the Gyou Campaign.
Mō Ten cultivates significant bonds. He shared a deep connection with his grandfather Mou Gou, revered his father Mou Bu despite their differences, and protected his brother Mou Ki while respecting his strategic talents. His lifelong guardian and adjutant, Ko Zen, received profound affection. He maintains a friendly rivalry with Ou Hon, respecting his abilities but finding him overly rigid. His closest friendship is with Ri Shin; he treats Shin as an equal despite Shin's humble origins, offers guidance, mediates disputes with Ou Hon, and used his influence to mitigate Shin's punishment after the Ran Dou incident.
Historically, Mō Ten is based on the real Qin general Meng Tian, known for repelling northern invaders and contributions to infrastructure projects. Within the series, he is one of Qin's youngest generals, achieving the rank at age 25. His stated ambition is to become a "Great General of the Heavens" and secure a position among the Six Great Generals of Qin.
