Description
Général Eligor, also known as the Great General of Darkness, serves as the supreme commander of the Mycenae Empire's military forces. His origins are ancient, having held his position as the right hand, enforcer, and trusted confidant of the Emperor of Darkness for over a millennium. For much of this time, the empire slumbered underground, rebuilding its strength. During the final episode of the original Mazinger Z series, it is revealed that Général Eligor, through his subordinate Archduke Gorgon, was secretly manipulating the mad scientist Dr. Hell. Following Dr. Hell's defeat at the hands of Mazinger Z, Général Eligor surfaced to lead the Mycenaean invasion of the surface world directly.

In terms of personality, Général Eligor is driven by an absolute and unconditional loyalty to the Emperor of Darkness and a singular, ruthless desire for world conquest, a goal he is willing to achieve by any means necessary. He embodies a strong sense of military honor and command, presenting himself as a gigantic, robust, and imposing figure who evokes both respect, loyalty, and fear among his subordinates. Even the most insubordinate warrior beasts show him deference. While he is ruthless in punishing his underlings for their failures, he also holds a deep-seated pride as a warrior. He shows no regard for humanity, viewing them as inferior, and is willing to commit genocide to achieve his empire's goals.

The character's primary motivation is the complete conquest of the world in the name of the Mycenae Empire. In the story of the film Mazinger Z tai Ankoku Daishōgun, which continues directly from the series, his role is that of the primary antagonist. With the fall of Dr. Hell, he emerges as a far greater and more ancient threat, tasked with eliminating the robot that dares to oppose the Mycenaean return. He demonstrates his overwhelming power immediately, for instance, by cleaving Mount Fuji in half with a single swing of his sword.

Général Eligor has several key relationships. He is utterly subservient to the Emperor of Darkness, acting as his voice and enforcer. Among his subordinates in the Mycenaean hierarchy, he has a notable heated rivalry with Prime Minister Argos of the Intelligence Army; they frequently argue and fight, requiring the Emperor to intervene. Despite this, a mutual respect for each other's capabilities and shared goals for the empire exists. Another key relationship is with Archduke Gorgon, whom he assigned to oversee and manipulate Dr. Hell from the shadows. In some versions of the story, he develops a deep mutual respect with his human enemy, Tetsuya Tsurugi, pilot of Great Mazinger, who acknowledges the General as a great hero of the Mycenaean Empire after his death.

The development and fate of Général Eligor are most clearly defined in the original Great Mazinger anime. After the repeated failures of his subordinates to defeat the new super-robot, Great Mazinger, the General decides to take personal responsibility and leads the final assault himself. Despite his long-standing rivalry with Argos, the Prime Minister expresses concern and provides full support for this mission. Général Eligor engages in a long and difficult battle against Great Mazinger, managing to knock his opponent down but suffering mortal wounds himself. In his final moments, he rejects assistance from his subordinate Marquis Janus, instead requesting a warrior's song be played for him to endure the agony of his death. He then falls onto Great Mazinger and explodes. Following his defeat, the Emperor of Darkness resurrects Dr. Hell as the Grand Marshal of Hell to fill the power vacuum. Even Tetsuya Tsurugi, his greatest enemy, holds a level of respect for him in death, honoring him as a true warrior.

Général Eligor possesses formidable notable abilities. His physical strength is immense, allowing him to cleave a mountain in half with his massive sword. He is a master swordsman and his combat prowess is such that he can overwhelm even a super-robot like Great Mazinger in direct combat. In addition to his melee abilities, he can fire powerful optic beams from his eyes. His cape is also highly durable, being both laser and heat-proof, and in some retellings, it is shown capable of deflecting powerful attacks like Mazinkaiser's Breast Fire.
