OVA
Description
Within the comedic and self-referential OVA.hack//GIFT, Kite appears as a relaxed and laid-back version of his usual heroic self, though he struggles to find any peace due to the constant demands of his companion, BlackRose. His primary motivation throughout the story is driven by BlackRose dragging him along on her quest to be the first player to discover and reach Helba's secret hot springs, leaving him with little time for rest. In this installment, his iconic Twilight Bracelet, normally a powerful tool for data manipulation, is comically replaced with a simple lug nut on his right arm. Despite this change, Kite retains his Gate Hacking ability, which he uses to help the party access the hidden field containing the hot springs.
Kite's personality in.hack//GIFT retains his core straightforwardness but is heavily colored by a dry, witty sense of humor, particularly when reacting to the absurd situations around him. This is most evident in his running gag of repeatedly and incorrectly accusing the character Balmung of being a Player Killer (PKer). After coming across the corpse of a character he believes to be Orca, Kite immediately blames a nearby Balmung, jokingly suggesting that Balmung used Helba's ban on role-playing as an excuse to indulge in suppressed violent urges. He continues this false accusation later upon finding another comatose character, ignoring Balmung’s tearful pleas of innocence. Beyond this comedic animosity, his key relationship is with BlackRose, who serves as the energetic instigator to his more composed demeanor. A brief but notable interaction occurs with Tsukasa, when the two share a hot spring and Kite finds himself in an awkward situation after learning of Tsukasa’s true gender. While his role is less that of a serious hero and more that of a confused participant in the chaos, Kite remains the calm center of the group, using his wits to solve the puzzle of reaching the hot springs. Ultimately, his development is minimal by design, as he largely serves as a comedic straight man to the antics of the other characters, enduring BlackRose’s enthusiasm and the general absurdity of the GIFT scenario with bemused tolerance.
