Description
Maiko Tamaki, often called by her nickname Tama, is one of the three central female characters in the visual novel and anime. She is portrayed as a childhood friend of the protagonist, a role that forms the foundation of her involvement in the story. As a second-year high school student, she is characterized by her lively and energetic nature, presenting an outgoing and talkative personality that often borders on being an airhead. Her behavior is notably immature and naive, and she has a tendency to refer to herself in the third person. Maiko struggles with academic subjects, particularly with kanji, and is known for sleeping soundly through her classes. Despite her poor study habits, which put her at risk of repeating a school year, she puts tremendous energy into having fun and enjoying herself. Her simple pleasures include a love for sweet foods such as strawberry milk and ice cream.

Her motivations are largely driven by a desire for autonomy and enjoyment, leading her to take on a part-time job without informing her parents. This decision, coupled with her academic troubles, creates points of concern that the protagonist must navigate. In her role as the protagonist’s childhood friend, she shares a deep, long-standing bond with him, and her actions and well-being are a significant factor in his journey. Her relationship with him is central to her character, as her cheerful and somewhat troublesome presence directly impacts his decisions. Within the larger group of main characters, her bright and somewhat clumsy demeanor contrasts with the more mysterious and troubled nature of the others. In the anime adaptation, her character experiences distress within an alternate world, a stark departure from her normally cheerful vitality, revealing a more vulnerable side as she appears to suffer in this other reality. This struggle becomes a key element of the narrative, as her suffering in the alternative world is directly tied to the protagonist’s mission to uncover the truth. Her notable abilities are not supernatural; rather, she is depicted as having practical skills such as singing and playing volleyball, which align with her outgoing and spirited personality.
