Description
O-Hana is the eight-year-old daughter of Cloud and Turtle in the anime adaptation of Haguregumo, a story set in the late Edo period. She is the younger sister of Shinnosuke and the only daughter in the family. Within the anime she holds a supporting role, appearing as a member of the household whose presence helps round out the family dynamic at the center of the story.
In terms of personality, O-Hana is a tomboy with a serious and earnest disposition, which places her in direct contrast to her parents. Where Cloud is a carefree womanizer who avoids work and Turtle often joins him in idling, O-Hana is level-headed and responsible for her age. Her serious attitude echoes that of her older brother Shinnosuke, who is likewise more conscientious than their parents. At the same time, she is still a lively and mischievous child, and her seriousness does not make her withdrawn or timid.
Her most defining trait is her deep affection for her father. Unlike Shinnosuke, who is more reserved and sometimes critical of Cloud's irresponsible ways, O-Hana openly adores her father and actively seeks physical closeness with him. She is demonstrative in her love and does not hide her attachment. This warmth toward Cloud, combined with her otherwise mature demeanor, gives her a distinctive and endearing presence within the family.
Her motivations are simple and rooted in family life. She cares about her father and wants to be near him, and she carries herself with a seriousness that suggests she takes the world around her more earnestly than the adults in her household do. As a supporting figure, she does not drive the main events of the story, but she reinforces the theme of generational contrast between the parents' carefree, drifting lifestyle and the more grounded outlook of their children.
Her relationships are shaped by this contrast. With her mother Turtle she shares the family household, and with her brother Shinnosuke she shares a similar earnest temperament, though she differs from him in how openly she expresses affection for their father. With Cloud, her bond is the most prominent: she is his devoted daughter, and her willingness to show affection stands out against her brother's more distant and critical stance.
O-Hana does not possess any combat abilities or special skills. Her notable qualities are her personality and her family bonds—her tomboyish energy, her serious nature, and especially her openly loving relationship with her father. She remains a consistent presence in the story rather than undergoing a major transformation, serving as a steady, affectionate counterweight to the larger-than-life behavior of the adults around her.
