Description
Justin Casey is a dark-haired boy with blue eyes, typically dressed in a yellow t-shirt, blue overalls, white knee socks, and brown sneakers. He serves as one of the three young protagonists who discover the time-traveling Flying House while seeking shelter from a storm in a wooded area. As the story begins, he is searching for his two best friends, Angela Angie Roberts and her younger brother Corwyn Corky Roberts, during a game of hide and seek when a sudden thunderstorm forces the group to run for cover, leading them to the mysterious house. Together with Angie and Corky, Justin is swept into the past due to a mishap involving the house's eccentric owner, Professor Humphrey Bumble.
Justin acts as the responsible navigator of the Flying House for Professor Bumble. While he can be somewhat ravenous or irritable when things do not go his way, he is generally quick to admit his errors and strives to avoid repeating the same mistakes. Angie often corrects his behavior with the phrase dont be such a pill when his attitude becomes problematic. Justin values his friendships deeply, not only with Angie, Corky, and the robot SIR (Solar Ion Robot), but also with the people he meets during his travels through biblical history. He typically tries to resolve conflicts peacefully, though he can become frustrated when witnessing particularly negative behavior, with Angie usually intervening to help him cool down into a stern lecture rather than physical action. He also enjoys making jokes and cheering up those who are feeling down.
Justin is able to judge his own actions and learn from difficult experiences, having been rescued from a dark place that helped him reflect on his behavior. Together with Angie and SIR, he retells what they have learned during their adventures to Professor Bumble, who is delighted to hear about their discoveries. The professor also provides comfort to Justin and his friends when they encounter something devastating, after which they typically experience something wonderful soon afterward. Justin and his companions witness and participate in numerous events from the New Testament during their unintended journey through time, from the birth of John the Baptist to the rise of the Apostle Paul, without causing lasting consequences to history. He demonstrates resourcefulness and courage as the group works together to find a way back to their own time period.
