Kan Jou serves as a commander in the Qin military. Initially part of the Ou Sen Army under General A Kou, he was transferred to the Gyoku Hou Unit six months before the Choyou Campaign by General Ou Sen's order, for undisclosed reasons. He holds the rank of first commander of the Gyoku Hou Army and leads his own sub-unit, the Kan Jou Army. A vassal loyal to the Ou family's main branch, his appearance presents a sharp-featured man in his mid-30s, sporting dark hair in a ponytail, a mustache, and goatee. He typically wears a long-sleeved robe beneath decorative gray armor with pauldrons, often maintaining a calm demeanor punctuated by an occasional smug grin. His personality blends analytical thinking with cautious independence, carrying a mysterious presence. He exhibits a whimsical tendency to act autonomously for battlefield success, even if it means disregarding orders from his superior, Ou Hon. Colleagues like Ban You acknowledge his reliable strength while noting initial reservations about his trustworthiness. Kan Jou's military service includes key campaigns. During the Fire Dragons of Wei Arc at Choyou, commanding Gyoku Hou's right wing, he efficiently cleared enemy forces in the southern forest and later orchestrated a rear assault against Earl Shi's troops. Recognizing a Wei encirclement attempt, he advised Ou Hon to retreat, challenging the latter's risky assassination plan and invoking Ou Sen's prudent strategies against Ou Hon's aggression. In the Western Zhao Invasion Arc, he participated in the Battle of Shukai Plains. The Gyoku Hou Unit served as reserves under A Kou's First Division; Kan Jou encouraged Ou Hon to observe A Kou's ruthless efficiency. Struggling against Gaku'Ei and Chou Ga Ryuu's forces on the second day, he later assisted Ou Hon in breaking their encirclement and flanking Ba Nan Ji's army. On the ninth day, after A Kou's incapacitation, he privately discussed rumors of Ou Hon's disputed parentage with Ban You, an exchange overheard by Shin. During the Shiyuu Conflict Arc, supporting the restructured Gyoku Hou Army, he expressed confidence in their strength when ordered to strike an enemy headquarters. In the Hango Campaign, commanding 20,000 reserves after Ou Hon departed, he rushed to aid Ou Sen's core army against Shi Ba Shou's formidable Seika forces. After Qin's forces crumbled, he reunited with Ou Hon to cover the Hi Shin Unit's retreat, complying despite initial resistance to risking soldiers for rivals. Following military reforms by Shou Hei Kun in the Three Pillars Arc, Kan Jou was promoted to General and accompanied Ou Hon to Wei to block potential Han reinforcements. His combat abilities are well-regarded, demonstrating skill in tactical command and physical combat, with leadership and intelligence both stated at 88 and strength at 86. He played a crucial role in elevating the Gyoku Hou Army's capabilities, though he has not yet revealed his full potential in battle. Key relationships include his mentorship under Ou Sen, his complex dynamic with Ou Hon balancing loyalty and tactical disagreements, his professional partnership with Ban You, and bonds with fallen comrades like Kyuu Kou, to whom he apologized during a critical moment, and Shou Taku.
