Description
Marg is the twin brother of Takeru Myojin, who was born on the planet Gishin under the original name Mars. Shortly after their birth, Emperor Zul orchestrated the death of their parents and had the infant Mars abducted and sent to Earth, leaving Marg to grow up alone on Gishin. Marg became a member of a guerrilla resistance movement opposed to the dictatorial rule of Emperor Zul. During this time he fell in love with Ruru, the daughter of the rebellion leader, but the organization was eventually destroyed. Marg was captured, imprisoned, and later forcibly turned into a soldier of the Gishinian Empire.
Marg possesses strong telepathic abilities, which he uses to communicate with his brother from a distance. Initially discontent with following Zul’s orders, he secretly reaches out to Takeru, providing him with knowledge about Gishin’s history and attempting to guide him from afar. This telepathic link serves as a crucial lifeline that deepens the brothers’ awareness of each other despite their physical separation.
Later, his memory is erased by Emperor Zul, and he is transformed into a Gishinian commander whose mission is to kill Takeru, now perceived as a traitor to his home world. This forces the brothers into a tragic fratricidal conflict. During a critical battle, Marg’s memories return, and he physically interposes himself to shield Takeru’s mecha, God Mars, from a fatal attack, resulting in his own death. His journey is one of longing, resistance, brainwashing, and eventual redemption through self-sacrifice.
Marg is characterized by a gentle and kind nature that contrasts with the fierce passion he displays when fighting for what he believes in. His primary motivation throughout the story is the desire to reunite with his lost brother and to oppose the tyranny of Emperor Zul. His role in the narrative is that of a secondary protagonist who becomes an antagonist against his will, ultimately fulfilling a redemptive arc. His relationships are centered on Takeru, with whom he shares a deep familial bond, and on Ruru, his lost love. Notable abilities include powerful telepathy, extrasensory perception, and the capacity to pilot a mecha; in the 1988 original video animation centered on his life, he pilots an alternate version of God Mars.
