Description
Light Tenryū arrives at Shadowverse College as a complete novice, invited by Wolfram Zerga who speaks of a destined fate. The invitation includes a pre-loaded Dragoncraft deck and an unusually sentient but amnesiac Digital Friend named Draconir. Light struggles initially with the game's mechanics and technology, facing challenges in basic gameplay and strategic decisions.
He soon meets Itsuki Mitsutagawa, president of the near-defunct Seventh Flame club facing disbandment. Honoring a promise to Itsuki, Light joins and actively recruits members, starting with his first college friend, Subaru Makabe. Recruitment involves strategic Shadowverse battles against other club leaders: Shinobu Miki of Sixth Magic and Tsubasa Takanashi of Third Feather. Through these duels, Light confronts external manipulations—Gentleman (later Shion Otosaka) controlling Sixth Magic—and helps Tsubasa recover from Haruma Hazeura's destructive influence. These efforts successfully rebuild Seventh Flame into a six-member team.
Light's Dragoncraft deck focuses on Drago Weapon amulets, which destroy themselves to "arm" Dragoncraft followers, boosting defense and granting new abilities, reflecting an armored dragon theme. A key weakness emerges against Shadowcraft's Necromancy strategies, where destroying enemy followers empowers stronger forms. Early losses to Haruma and Alice Kurobane highlight his inexperience but fuel his growth. Intensive training follows a severe defeat by Haruma, leading Light to awaken the true power of his ace card, Lævateinn Dragon, during a battle with Andrea Londo. His growth continues in the Shadowverse Club Tournament, where he defeats Haruma in the finals by awakening Lævateinn Dragon's second form, revealing Haruma's pain and fostering Light's desire to connect despite rejection.
Recovering Draconir's lost memories becomes a primary goal after Mikado Shirogane awards Light a data box containing a fragment. Marguerite Valois reveals these memories are held by the Seven Shadows, top global players including Hiro Ryūgasaki and Luca Yonazuki. To challenge them, Light enters the Shadowverse World Ranking tournament, starting at zero points. Key developments include receiving the Dual Rage card from Vanessa Joubert and mastering it through repeated battles against Mikado, whose sadistic playstyle previously traumatized Haruma. Rising to second place, Light defeats Mikado using Lævateinn Dragon's hidden ability, Dual Form Alpha. Light and Seventh Flame then travel to the Shadow Area to battle the Seven Shadows for Draconir's memories.
Conflict escalates when Hiro Ryūgasaki seeks the Arc to destroy it, preventing the resurrection of the Tree of Woe. Light defeats Hiro, triggering the Arc's appearance. The Arc Ruler hijacks the Arc, unleashing chaos by transforming DigiFriends into Shade monsters. Light confronts the Arc Ruler at the World Tower, where Draconir fears his connection to the Arc Ruler's origins. Reassuring Draconir of their unwavering partnership, Light battles the Arc Ruler, winning through Draconir's evolution into Burning Dragon and demonstrating the unpredictable element of "fun" in Shadowverse. This victory forces the Arc Ruler to acknowledge their bond.
Wolfram Zerga steals the Arc, reviving the Tree of Woe to force a "fair restart" of the world. He reveals Light was fated three years prior as the chosen owner of the eighth Mythical Card—the Arc Ruler's true form. Inside the Tree, Light battles Wolfram using newly manifested True Arms cards and the Omens but loses, facing Wolfram's wrath for not fulfilling the "Chosen One" destiny. Rescued by the Arc Ruler, Light learns he can enter Nexus's dimension for a final duel, risking permanent entrapment if defeated. Accepting this challenge despite fear, Light battles Wolfram again, countering Wolfram's plan to erase individuality by asserting true connection stems from embracing differences.
