Description
Fireball Hikari is a central character from the anime series Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs, where he serves as the pilot of the Ramrod Equalizer Unit. His original name in the Japanese version is Shinji Hikari, and he is depicted as a teenage boy with brown eyes and brown hair that falls to neck length.

Before joining the Star Sheriffs, Fireball had a successful career as a race car driver, having become the youngest driving champion in history. This background makes him an exceptionally skilled pilot, and he brings this expertise to his role on the team. He drives a heavily armed race car called the Red Fury Racer or Turbo, which features an extensive arsenal of weapons. On the Ramrod Equalizer Unit, Fireball is responsible for piloting the vehicle and also has secondary control over the heavy weaponry located in the giant robot's chest region.

Fireball's personality is defined by a quick temper and a headstrong nature. He is passionate about all things related to racing and piloting, and at one point, he boasts of having a perfect memory. His fiery disposition is balanced by his loyalty to his teammates and his commitment to their mission.

His personal background includes a significant loss: his father was a fighter pilot who left home when Fireball was young. It is later revealed that his father did not simply abandon the family but sacrificed himself in an attempt to stop the Outriders' initial invasion of the human dimension. This revelation adds a layer of depth to his character, connecting his personal history directly to the larger conflict he faces as a Star Sheriff.

Within the story, Fireball is one of four members chosen by Commander Eagle of the Cavalry Command to form the Star Sheriffs. Alongside the leader Saber Rider, the sharpshooter April Eagle, and the strongman Colt Willcox, Fireball fights against the alien Outriders and their leader, Nemesis, who seek to conquer the human dimension. As the team's pilot, his skills are essential for operating their primary weapon system, the transforming starship Ramrod. Over the course of the series, Fireball also develops a romantic relationship with his teammate April Eagle, partly due to Saber Rider's obliviousness to her feelings for their leader.

Fireball undergoes several notable developments throughout the series. The loss of his father is a recurring theme that informs his motivations. In one particular episode, he experiences easy amnesia following an encounter with the Outriders, losing his memories of his friends and their shared adventures. This event requires his teammates to try to remind him of his past and his identity as a Star Sheriff, providing a challenge to his role within the group.
