Description
Pat Fraley is an American voice actor and voice-over teacher whose prolific career includes significant contributions to the English dubbing of Japanese anime series and films. Born Patrick Howard Fraley on February 18, 1949, in Seattle, Washington, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in dramatic arts from Whitman College and a Master of Fine Arts in acting from Cornell University. He began his professional voice acting career in 1979.

In the context of anime, Fraley is perhaps best known for his role as Fireball Hikari in the English-language adaptation of the Japanese series Sei Jūshi Bismarck, which was released in North America as Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs. In this space-western series, his character serves as the hot-headed but skilled pilot of the team's mecha, the Ramrod. He was part of a principal cast that included other notable voice actors such as Rob Paulsen and Townsend Coleman.

Beyond this signature role, Fraley contributed to several English dubs of acclaimed Japanese anime films. He provided additional voices for the English version of Hayao Miyazaki’s Princess Mononoke and had a role as the character Bellini in another Studio Ghibli film, Porco Rosso. He also contributed to the English dub of Tales from Earthsea, voicing a weapon salesman and an advisor. His other anime-related voice work includes characters in the English dub of Crayon Shin-chan.

While Fraley is widely recognized by anime fans for these roles, his broader career in Western animation is extensive. He is most famous for voicing dozens of characters in the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series, including the villainous Krang, the vigilante Casey Jones, and the scientist Baxter Stockman. His other major animated roles include the title character in BraveStarr, Wildcat in TaleSpin, Cousin Itt in The Addams Family, and Tuffy Smurf in The Smurfs. He also performed as the voice of Buzz Lightyear in various video games, theme park attractions, and merchandise when Tim Allen was unavailable.

Beyond performing, Fraley is a respected voice-over coach and a member of the Voice and Speech Trainers of America, having taught and mentored many aspiring voice actors. His versatility and longevity have made him a notable figure in the voice-acting community for both his on-microphone work and his educational contributions.
