Description
Ayame Akimo is one of the main characters from the anime series Wandaba Style, where she serves as the folk singer for the unpopular idol group Mix Juice. Standing 160 cm tall and weighing 46 kg, she has a physical appearance that includes blue eyes, blue hair cut to neck-length, and she is often seen wearing glasses and a hairband. Her character embodies the spirit of a contemporary folk singer, evoking the essence of the Woodstock era.

Ayame possesses a gentle and soft-spoken voice, which complements her eccentric personality. Her most defining trait is her sincere and unshakable belief in the existence of fairies, claiming that she is the only person capable of seeing them. These are not delicate or tiny creatures; the fairies she interacts with are depicted as small, green, bald, musclebound men with wings. This conviction leads many others to perceive her as deranged or ditsy, but it is presented as a genuine part of her worldview rather than an affectation.

Within the story of Wandaba Style, Ayame's role is to provide the folk music element to Mix Juice, contrasting with her bandmates who represent enka, rock, and nursery singing styles. She is depicted as a simple girl who sings her simple melodies on roadsides and walkways before being recruited for the ambitious lunar concert project. Her primary motivation is tied to her participation in Mix Juice, as she joins her bandmates in their often absurd and failed experiments designed to reach the moon.

Ayame's key relationships are with the other members of her idol group. She is one of four singers, alongside Himawari Natsuwa, Yuri Fuyude, and Sakura Haruno, who together form the core of Mix Juice. While the group frequently squabbles, they are bound by their shared goal and desperate circumstances as an unpopular band. Her dynamic with the boy genius Susumu Tsukumo and the manager Michael Hanagata is that of a test subject, as they use the girls for their experimental launches.

In terms of character development, Ayame's journey is tied to her unusual perception. Initially, her singing is noted to be quite poor, though this appears to be a temporary flaw that is corrected. A significant change occurs later in the series, where she is shown to have become an office worker and, more notably, has stopped seeing her fairies. This represents a loss of her defining eccentricity and a shift toward a more conventional, mundane life. Her notable abilities include her talent for folk singing and, most distinctively, her ability to perceive and communicate with her unique, muscular fairy companions.
