Description
Michael Hanagata is the manager of the idol group Mix Juice. He is a skinny man with a blonde afro, large sunglasses, and a tendency to speak loudly and boastfully. His background is that of a small-time talent hustler who dreams of managing the best band in the world and making millions of dollars. This financial motivation is the primary driver of his actions throughout the story. He is described as shady and sleazy, willing to cut corners and make questionable deals to get his group ahead. His role in the story is that of a catalyst: he is the one who strikes a deal with the young genius Dr. Susumu Tsukumo, proposing that Mix Juice be used as test pilots for Tsukumo's experimental eco-friendly rockets in exchange for the publicity of performing on the moon. This arrangement forms the core premise of the series. His key relationships are primarily transactional. He manages the four members of Mix Juice—Sakura, Himawari, Ayame, and Yuri—though his interest in them is less about their artistic growth and more about their potential to generate income. He works closely with Dr. Tsukumo, acting as a middleman between the scientist's ambitions and the idol group's need for exposure. His character experiences limited development; he largely remains a comedic figure driven by greed and self-interest throughout the series. A notable recurring ability, or rather a recurring consequence of his actions, is that he often finds himself accidentally launched into orbit or physically victimized by Tsukumo's failed or unstable experiments. Another running gag is that every time he introduces himself, his name is interrupted or cut off by whatever chaos is occurring around him.
