Description
Takuya Kuroki serves as an operator within the Special Weapons Enforcement unit in a future Japan that suppresses supernatural abilities. Alongside his younger brother, Yuya, he tracks down individuals with psychic powers, specifically targeting the Kirihara brothers, Naoto and Naoya. Takuya enforces laws prohibiting religious beliefs and fictional expressions, wielding his own government-sanctioned psychic abilities against others. A traumatic childhood event fuels his motivations: witnessing his parents' deaths led him to falsely believe the Kirihara brothers were responsible, igniting a deep-seated vendetta. This anger drives his aggressive pursuit of Naoto and Naoya. During a confrontation, Naoto accuses Takuya of hypocrisy for using psychic powers to persecute others; Takuya deflects by focusing on his personal grudge rather than addressing the contradiction.
Takuya's perspective transforms as the truth emerges. His childhood memory of Naoto killing his parents proves a misinterpretation; the Kirihara brothers actually intervened during a SWE raid to protect young Takuya and Yuya. Their mother survived the raid, injured by broken glass, and the brothers were hidden. Takuya also learns his and Yuya's existence creates a temporal paradox threatening global stability. Facing these revelations and influenced by Yuya's pacifism, Takuya chooses not to destroy the Kirihara brothers in the climax. Instead, he collaborates with Yuya to sever the psychic link connecting the two pairs of brothers, allowing the Kiriharas to return to their spiritual world. This act resolves the paradox and prevents destruction, requiring Takuya to accept a fabricated narrative about his parents' fate provided by Kimie Kobayashi, the new SWE leader. His journey concludes with a move towards reconciliation and a new understanding of balance between worlds, alongside his brother.
