A significant aspect of his career is his long-standing role as a radio personality, having co-hosted the popular program "A & G Media Station Komuchatto Countdown" (also known as "Komucha") since 2002, a tenure that contributed to his 2022 award win.

Sakurai has notable recurring collaborations throughout his career. He was a member of the agency 81 Produce from his debut until 2013, after which he went freelance for a period. In July 2014, he joined INTENTION, an agency founded by his close friend and fellow voice actor Kenichi Suzumura, with whom he had also co-hosted the radio show Cherry Bell from 2003 to 2015. He departed from INTENTION in March 2023. His long tenure on "Komucha" also represents a sustained collaboration with a series of co-hosts, including Kana Ueda, Ami Koshimizu, Yuka Iguchi, and Haruka Shiraishi. Beyond his vocal work, Sakurai is also skilled in illustration, having contributed eyecatch illustrations for the anime Canvas 2: Niji Iro no Sketch and worked as a key drawing staff member for the final episode of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2.
