Description
Isuzu Ichinose is a central character in Space Battleship Tiramisu Zwei, serving as both a rival and, eventually, an uneasy ally to the protagonist. He is the older brother of Subaru Ichinose, the main pilot of the Earth Federation battleship Tiramisu. In his youth, Isuzu enlisted in the Earth Union army, where his exceptional piloting skills allowed him to rise through the ranks quickly. However, he ultimately deserted, finding that his personal philosophy was fundamentally incompatible with the principles of the Earth Union military. This led him to defect to the opposing space immigration organization known as the People of Metus, where he holds an executive-level position and the rank of Colonel.

Physically, Isuzu is a tall and handsome man with dark blonde hair and cyan eyes, standing 180 centimeters tall and weighing 62 kilograms. This polished, cool exterior, however, belies a significantly more flawed and comedic interior personality. Despite his elite status and the respect, or at least the nickname "It-kun," he receives from his subordinates, Isuzu is notably absent-minded and disorganized. He is prone to misplacing critical items, such as the key to his personal aircraft, and has a curious habit of wearing an eyepatch over his left eye purely for decorative purposes, referring to the accessory as the "snow guy". His personal cockpit is also unconventional, customized to resemble a spacious hotel room complete with a sofa and bed rather than a standard military space.

Isuzu's primary motivation is complex and deeply tied to his family. While he is an enemy ace pilot, his recurring goal is to persuade his younger brother, Subaru, to defect from the Earth Federation and join his side. This mission is rooted in their shared past, which includes the loss of their mother to war and a father preoccupied with the development of mobile weapons. A significant and hidden source of personal angst for Isuzu is his complete lack of an innate superhuman spatial awareness known as "universe sense," an ability that many of his peers, including a young girl named Fei Callaway he mentors, naturally possess. This perceived deficiency is a major complex for him, causing him considerable distress when confronted with others who exhibit the talent.

Throughout the narrative of the second season, Isuzu's role evolves. Initially infiltrated as Subaru's operator, he eventually reveals his true identity and allegiance. After a falling out with his superior, Escalade Cadillac, of the People of Metus, Isuzu makes a decisive break from the organization. He forms his own independent unit, the Isuzu Independent Unit, and chooses to join forces with the Tiramisu. This shift from a direct antagonist to a cooperative ally marks a significant development in his character, moving him from a position of pure sibling rivalry to a more complex partnership. Despite his quirks and personal hang-ups, his piloting skills and bare-bodied combat abilities are considered first-class, making him a formidable presence whether as an enemy or an ally.
