Description
Luther is the final surviving Photoner, an ancient race predating Humans, Newmans, Deumans, and CASTs. He exhibits a grandiose, egotistical personality, considering himself beyond others' comprehension and harboring an obsessive fixation on Xion, the embodiment of creation. After millennia of life, his ultimate desire shifts toward attaining omniscience. During the Photoner era, his extensive research and experiments created ARKS (Artificial Relicit to Keep Species), the Oracle fleet's military arm. Following the extinction of his race, he secretly led ARKS for decades, manipulating the organization to advance his goals.
His manipulations include recruiting vulnerable individuals like Theodor, exploiting Theodor's grief over Ulku by promising power and transforming him into a Dewman. He orders an Abyss Order to eliminate the protagonist for interfering. His primary objective culminates in an attempt to capture Xion at the Oracle Mothership's core and merge with her to gain universal knowledge. This plan is thwarted by the protagonist, Matoi, and Xion. Consumed by vengeance after this failure, Luther's photons corrupt, transforming him into Dark Falz [Loser]—a name derived from a Japanese pronunciation pun on "Luther." As [Loser], he embodies extreme egomania and seeks omniscience by consuming the universe. He commands avian Darkers and possesses multiple transformations: a six-winged "Falz Angel" form enhancing speed, accuracy, and strength, and a colossal final form after fusing with the infected Mothership, featuring a distinctive crown and a golden clock on his chest. ARKS forces, including the protagonist, Matoi, Quna, and Zeno, defeat him, and Regius finishes him off. His body is later consumed by [Gemini], enabling replication of his form and abilities.
Following his defeat, Luther reappears when the protagonist and Matoi are swallowed by the entity Double during Episode 3. Though their relationship remains strained, he assists their escape from a pocket dimension, revealing access to newfound knowledge while expressing weariness and loneliness. He chooses to remain behind. In Episode 5, after his Omega counterpart's death, Luther's record is absorbed by the protagonist. He asserts his uniqueness and acknowledges shared feelings with his counterpart regarding Hariette. Granting the protagonist access to his power, he states his tiredness of confinement within [Gemini] and later the Profound Darkness, offering no guidance.
A distinct incarnation, Luther Lars Rey Cuento, exists in the Omega dimension. He is Hariette's older brother and the former successor to Cuento's throne before its overthrow. Unlike his Oracle counterpart, this Luther demonstrates a kinder, remorseful disposition, actively atoning for weaponizing Ephemera and creating Castrum Demonicas. He joins Hariette's rebellion against Prime Minister Lutz to end Ephemera's threat. He assists in sealing the Crimson Fellwyrm by absorbing its Ephemera, enabling Alis Landale to reapply a temporary seal with her Laconium Sword. However, violent outbursts due to Ephemera corruption culminate in him kidnapping Hariette to use her as a catalyst for omniscience. Fully transformed into Dark Falz Luther (Omega Angel) by Ephemera, he battles the Guardian and Xiera. After his defeat, Hariette impales him to stop him. With his dying words, he commends Hariette's growth and requests the Guardian protect her. His record is absorbed by the Guardian, granting the Dark Blast [Luther] power.
