Description
Ferid Bathory is a vampire noble who holds the rank of the Seventh Progenitor, making him a high-ranking and extraordinarily powerful member of vampire society. Within the vampire city of Sanguinem, he is the second most influential figure after the queen, Krul Tepes. He is approximately 1300 years old and possesses silver hair, red eyes, and stands 182 centimeters tall. His appearance often includes distinctive red ribbon decorations.

Born as the second son of a royal family, Ferid had a strict upbringing intended to shape him into a saint. As a human, he harbored a profound hatred for his parents, whom he eventually killed. Following this act of patricide, he was turned into a vampire by a powerful being named Saito, also known as Rigr Stafford. His transformation was part of an experiment to create a being called "Mikaela," but Ferid was deemed a failure and subsequently discarded by his sire. This abandonment fuels his deepest and most consistent motivation: revenge against Saito, a plan he has patiently cultivated for over a thousand years.

Ferid's personality is a study in unsettling contradictions. He speaks with a playful, courteous, and often evasive tone, which masks a deeply sadistic and manipulative core. He is described as free-spirited, whimsical, and prone to speaking nonsense, yet he is also calculating and self-serving. He displays a casual cruelty towards others, taking genuine pleasure in inflicting suffering and despair, particularly on human children. He is known to say one thing and do another, and he betrays allies and enemies with equal ease if it serves his long-term schemes.

One of Ferid’s most significant roles in the story is that of a hidden manipulator. He is directly responsible for the tragic death of the Hyakuya orphanage children, brutally murdering them during an escape attempt. He purposefully allowed the protagonist, Yuichiro Hyakuya, to shoot him in the head and escape, a calculated act tied to a larger plan. Ferid also orchestrated the near-death of Mikaela Hyakuya to force Krul Tepes into turning him into a vampire. Unbeknownst to most, he has a long-standing secret alliance with the human exorcist Guren Ichinose, acting as his informant and partner in a grand conspiracy.

Ferid's relationships are defined by manipulation and leverage. He has a brotherly yet transactional bond with Crowley Eusford, having destroyed Crowley's human life and then turned him into a vampire using Saito's blood, making them "siblings" with the same sire. He constantly antagonizes and blackmails his queen, Krul Tepes, using her illegal Seraph of the End experiments as leverage to ensure his own safety and further his goals. He views Yuichiro and Mikaela as essential pawns, with Mikaela possessing a special "Mikaela factor" that connects to his own past.

Throughout the story, Ferid acts as a catalyst for major events. He betrays Krul at Nagoya Airport, leading to her downfall, and later imprisons her. He proposes a temporary alliance with Yuichiro's squad, guiding them toward his mansion. In a surprising turn, after being captured and tortured with sunlight by higher-ranking vampires for his treachery, he is rescued by the very humans he sought to manipulate. Following his rescue, his plans become more desperate as he and Guren face threats from all sides, eventually being drawn into a conflict with Yuichiro and the demon Mikaela. His long-standing scheming continues, but he is not invincible, often having to rely on his wits and the ignorance of his superiors to survive.

As a combatant, Ferid is exceptionally strong, even among the high-ranking progenitors. He wields a first-class vampire sword that strengthens his already formidable speed and power by drinking his blood. Like all vampires, he carries a special charm to protect himself from the lethal effects of ultraviolet sunlight, though this can be destroyed as a form of punishment. He is a capable commander on the battlefield and is able to hold his own against other nobles, though he is powerless against the oldest and strongest beings like his sire, Saito. Ultimately, Ferid’s primary ability is not brute force, but his endless patience, his skill at deceit, and his willingness to commit any atrocity in pursuit of his ancient goal.
