Description
Tatara Fujita, a middle school student with no clear direction in life, stumbles into the world of competitive ballroom dancing after being rescued from bullies by Kaname Sengoku, a professional dancer. Initially reluctant, Tatara becomes intrigued by the elegance and intensity of dance after witnessing Sengoku’s performance. He begins training at Sengoku’s studio, Ogasawara Dance Studio, where he meets Shizuku Hanaoka, a talented dancer who becomes his inspiration and eventual partner.
As Tatara immerses himself in the rigorous world of ballroom dance, he encounters a variety of characters who shape his journey. Hyodo Kiyoharu, a prodigious dancer with a prosthetic leg, becomes both a rival and a source of motivation. Chinatsu Hiyama, a former gymnast, later joins as Tatara’s partner, bringing her own competitive drive and challenges to their dynamic. The series explores their growth as dancers and individuals, highlighting the physical and emotional demands of the sport.
The narrative progresses through Tatara’s participation in competitions, where he faces formidable opponents and learns to navigate the intricacies of partnership, technique, and self-expression. The series delves into the technical aspects of ballroom dance, including the five standard dances (waltz, tango, Viennese waltz, slow foxtrot, and quickstep) and the Latin dances (samba, cha-cha-cha, rumba, paso doble, and jive). It also examines the personal struggles of the characters, such as Tatara’s insecurities, Chinatsu’s perfectionism, and Hyodo’s determination to overcome physical limitations.
The story balances intense competition with moments of introspection, showcasing the characters’ evolving relationships and their pursuit of excellence in a highly competitive field. Through its focus on perseverance, teamwork, and self-discovery, the series provides a detailed and engaging portrayal of the world of ballroom dance.
