Sumire Morohoshi
Description
Sumire Morohoshi is a Japanese actress, voice actress, and singer born in Kanagawa Prefecture on April 23, 1999. She began her career in entertainment at the young age of three after joining the Himawari Theatre Group, an affiliation she maintains. Her initial foray into performance was inspired by a childhood admiration for a character in the film Spirited Away. Morohoshi made her voice acting debut in 2006 at the age of seven, voicing Carrie Sheedy in the anime series Red Garden.
Her early career included a range of roles, but a notable early performance was as Nina Tucker in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood in 2009, where her acting ability received recognition from fellow cast members and staff. A major turning point in her career came in 2012 when she was cast as the lead character, Ichigo Hoshimiya, in the long-running and popular franchise Aikatsu!. This role established her as a prominent voice actress in the industry. She has since continued to voice variations of this character in subsequent Aikatsu! series and films, including Aikatsu on Parade! and Aikatsu! 10th Story ~Mirai e no Starway~.
Morohoshi has built an extensive and diverse filmography, demonstrating a wide vocal range. She has taken on leading roles in major anime productions, such as Emma in The Promised Neverland and Michiru Kagemori in BNA: Brand New Animal. She is also well-known for her portrayal of Kyōka Izumi across multiple installments of the Bungo Stray Dogs franchise, including Bungo Stray Dogs Wan!. Other significant roles include Hinami Fueguchi in Tokyo Ghoul:re, Hitoka Yachi in Haikyu!! To The Top, and Yuki Itose in A Sign of Affection. Her versatility extends to comedic roles, such as voicing one iteration of the chaotic Popuko in Pop Team Epic. In addition to anime, her voice work spans video games, including roles in the Final Fantasy and Fire Emblem franchises, and dubbing foreign films, such as providing the Japanese voice for Vanellope von Schweetz in Wreck-It Ralph.
Beyond voice acting, Morohoshi is also a singer. She made her solo singing debut in 2019 under the Flying Dog record label. Her debut album, smile, featured the track Pure White, which was used as an opening theme for the anime Ascendance of a Bookworm. She later performed the opening theme Tsumujikaze for the same series' second season. In addition to her professional work, she pursued higher education and graduated from Aoyama Gakuin University in 2022.
