Description
Juliette, often called Julie for short, is a young Dwarf girl who becomes a central figure in the lives of Rudeus Greyrat and Zanoba Shirone during their time at the Ranoa University of Magic. She is introduced in the second season of the anime as a slave, purchased from a market in the city of Sharia. Her parents, a blacksmith named Bazelle and a jewel maker named Lilitella, were forced to sell the family into slavery due to overwhelming debt. By the time Rudeus and Zanoba find her, her parents have already been sold, leaving Juliette alone, weakened by malnourishment and illness.

In terms of appearance, Juliette is naturally small and slender due to her Dwarf lineage. She has unkempt, light red-orange hair and golden or amber-colored eyes. When first encountered, she is described as being deathly thin and pale, a direct result of her harsh life in captivity.

Personality-wise, Juliette initially presents as apathetic, silent, and lost in despair. Having endured a tragic and abusive childhood, she appears to have given up on life. Rudeus notes that she seemed to have no will to live, but when he speaks to her, she reveals a hidden spark by stating that she wants to survive. This moment of honesty moves Rudeus to purchase her. Once she is removed from the slave market and given a safe environment, her personality begins to change. She gradually starts showing emotions appropriate for her age, becoming curious, asking questions about things that interest her, and finding joy in small activities like having someone read her stories. She takes her work seriously and is patient in her studies, though she maintains a generally stern demeanor, only occasionally breaking into a smile when she masters a new skill or learns something fascinating.

Juliette’s primary role in the story is to become a doll maker, or figurine artisan, for Zanoba. Zanoba has an obsessive passion for dolls but is physically unable to create them due to his superhuman strength, which causes him to crush any delicate object he tries to craft. Rudeus buys Juliette specifically to train her as his hands, believing that a child can be taught to use magic without incantations (chantless spellcasting) to shape materials. Rudeus becomes her magic tutor, focusing exclusively on Earth Magic, which is necessary for sculpting and crafting. She demonstrates a natural talent for this, as Dwarves have a strong affinity for both Earth and Fire magic. Under Rudeus’s unconventional teaching methods, she successfully learns chantless spellcasting for Earth Magic after about a month of rigorous training.

Her key relationships define her development. The most significant bond is with Zanoba Shirone. Although she is technically his property, their relationship transcends the traditional master-slave dynamic. Zanoba acts as a kind and patient father figure, and Juliette forms a deep, mutual respect with him. She is often seen toddling after him or chatting with him about figurines, and he takes his role as her guardian seriously. Conversely, her relationship with Rudeus is more complex. While she respects him as a teacher for giving her the skills and freedom to create, she also harbors a degree of fear toward him. This fear stems from witnessing Rudeus’s ruthless and powerful side, such as when he imprisons the beast folk Linia and Pursena or uses violent magic against others.

Her development over the course of the series is a transition from a broken, disposable slave to a valued apprentice and family member. She gains a sense of purpose through her craft and receives a proper name, Juliette, given to her by Rudeus. Coincidentally, this name carries a heavy significance for Zanoba, as it is derived from the name of his younger brother, Julius, whom he accidentally killed in the past. This naming further solidifies her place as someone he is meant to protect and nurture.

Notable abilities include her mastery of chantless Earth magic, a rare and difficult skill that allows her to mold earth and stone with precision. Her mana capacity is also notably high, as she began intensive magical training at the very young age of six, a method that rapidly increases mana reserves. While she has an affinity for Fire Magic as well, her focus remains on Earth Magic to serve her purpose as a doll artisan.
