Description
Nemu Hiiragi is an eleven-year-old magical girl from Sankyo Ward and a fifth-grade student at Sankyoin Educational Academy. She has light brown hair arranged in ring-shaped ponytails on each side, violet eyes, and stands 149cm tall. Her magical girl outfit includes a black academic cap with her red-orange Soul Gem fixed to the tassel, a black cape trimmed in gold, and a beige below-thigh dress with gold detailing. She wears dull-red arm sleeves, dull purple tights, and gray boots, with a ball chain on her right boot marking her as a prisoner of the Magius. In her civilian life, she wears glasses and either a school uniform or a simple frilly yellow gown.
Intelligent, humble, and soft-spoken, Nemu developed a love for reading and writing stories, originally seeking approval through her work. After sharing her writing online, she gained acclaim as a literary genius. She met Ui Tamaki and Touka Satomi in a hospital, forming a strong bond with Ui. Though she frequently argues with Touka, their disagreements are usually brief.
Her wish to Kyubey was for the power to manifest, specifically demanding to "allow us to take them from you, Kyubey!" This wish granted her the unique Realization ability, enabling her to create Rumors, or Uwasa, at the cost of consuming part of her life force with each use. She wields a book as her weapon and specializes in support magic and status ailments rather than direct combat.
As a founding member and leader of the Wings of the Magius, an organization devoted to saving magical girls and eliminating Witches, Nemu used her ability to create Rumors to further their cause. An early contribution was the Uwasa that started invading Kamihama City. To provide a headquarters, she manifested a massive castle Rumor called Fendt Hope, which requires a constant output of her energy sustained by writing continuous sequels to her story.
Her involvement with the Magius brought her into conflict with Iroha Tamaki’s group. A key element of the Magius plan centered on Eve, who was later revealed to be her forgotten friend Ui Tamaki. Iroha helped restore this memory, convincing Nemu and Touka of Ui’s existence, which had been erased from their minds.
Her Doppel, Pennen Nenemu, takes the form of a deathwatch beetle and is known as the Doppel of Dying Wishes. It consumes stories from the world and materializes them into reality. Its power increases as Nemu weakens, but it expends all energy on materialization, leaving it vulnerable to direct attacks due to a lack of physical offensive capability.
After the events involving the Magius, she joined the Kamihama Magia Union. She later worked with Iroha, Ui, Touka, and Lil' Kyubey to recruit magical girls to Kamihama City.
