Nao is a replica, created for the sole purpose of substituting for Sunao Aikawa whenever the original girl does not want to go to school or face her daily life. She exists only when needed, living a borrowed life that no one is supposed to know about. The story is set in a seaside town where Nao attends high school as Sunao’s double, carrying out her duties without question until she speaks one day with a classmate named Shuya Sanada. He is the first person to notice that she is different from the original Sunao, recognizing subtle gaps in her memories and behavior.

To maintain their secret friendship, Nao asks Sanada to only speak with her when she wears her hair half up. He agrees, and they begin spending time together, finding genuine enjoyment in each other’s company.
