TV-Series
Description
Nao is a replica, created for the sole purpose of substituting for Sunao Aikawa whenever the original girl does not want to go to school or face her daily life. She exists only when needed, living a borrowed life that no one is supposed to know about. The story is set in a seaside town where Nao attends high school as Sunao’s double, carrying out her duties without question until she speaks one day with a classmate named Shuya Sanada. He is the first person to notice that she is different from the original Sunao, recognizing subtle gaps in her memories and behavior.

To maintain their secret friendship, Nao asks Sanada to only speak with her when she wears her hair half up. He agrees, and they begin spending time together, finding genuine enjoyment in each other’s company. As their bond deepens, Nao realizes she has developed special feelings for him, a complication she never anticipated. She is a replica who was never meant to have a will of her own, yet her love feels completely authentic. The central conflict arises from her uncertain fate, as she does not know what will happen to her if a replica falls in love.

The narrative follows Nao as she navigates her secret relationship with Sanada, going on dates and making shy promises while trying to hide her growing emotions from Sunao, who begins to notice changes in her replica. Key narrative arcs include Nao’s struggle for identity as she starts wishing for a life that is not hers, the delicate balance between the two identical girls who share the same face but different rights to exist, and the love triangle that emerges as both want the same boy. The anime also explores the mystery surrounding Sunao’s past and the reason Nao was created, building toward a moment when the fragile equilibrium between original and replica collapses. Major characters include Nao and Sunao Aikawa, both voiced by Sumire Morohoshi, Shuya Sanada, the quiet boy who left the basketball team and notices Nao’s true nature, and supporting classmates Ritsuko Hironaka, Suzumi Mori, Shun Mochizuki, Kozue Sato, and Haruka Yoshii. The series aired from April 7, 2026, with studio Voil producing the animation and Ryuichi Kimura directing.
