Description
Jun Kirishima is a popular and sociable student at Seikoku Academy, where she is also a key member of the gymnastics club. Her cheerful and outgoing nature allows her to easily connect with her peers, making her well-liked and admired within the school. However, this friendly public persona conceals a more complex and combative side. She secretly leads a group called Kings and Jokers, or KJ, which started as a support network during her brief independent career as an idol. While the group's insignia is derived from her initials, it is often misinterpreted by others as a gang symbol. In reality, the Kings and Jokers function as an anti-bullying organization, and Jun is not afraid to engage in street battles against local gangs to protect others.

This dual identity of cheerful student and underground fighter highlights her strong sense of justice and her drive to protect those who cannot protect themselves. Her sharp intuition makes her naturally suspicious of the seemingly peaceful surface of her town, and she actively investigates its hidden anomalies. Her formidable physical prowess, demonstrated when she easily defeats fellow pilot Ryugo Hijikata, is what draws the attention of Oblivion Bay, leading to her recruitment. Despite her friendly surface, she can be ruthless towards those who stand in her way, showing a side that few are allowed to see.

Within the story, Jun is selected by Genta Ibushi to pilot the Rogue Maximus, a twin-seater Megaton-class mech designed specifically for heavy artillery and firepower. Her role as a pilot is notably challenging, as she must learn to synchronize with her co-pilot, Momoka Saotome. This is complicated by the fact that Jun and Momoka share a long-standing personal rivalry, often leading to friction and squabbles that they must overcome to function as an effective team. On the other hand, she develops a strong camaraderie with Yamato Ichidaiji, as the two share similar personalities and a hot-blooded, passionate approach to fighting.

Jun's most significant character development occurs during a critical battle that coincides with the launch of the Shelter Ixia. When the Maximus sustains severe damage, she ejects Momoka to safety but chooses to remain on board, continuing to fight against overwhelming odds. This decision results in her sustaining mortal injuries. She is later revived by the healing abilities of her fellow pilot, Reiji Amemiya. This near-death experience and subsequent resurrection mark a pivotal turning point for her. Following her revival, she returns to piloting duties alongside Momoka in the repaired and upgraded Maximus Blaze. Her interactions with Reiji also gain new complexity, as his protective instincts, already known for his care of cats, extend to her after he saves her life.

In combat, Jun is a feisty and action-oriented fighter, known for piloting the heavily-armed Maximus with a focus on overwhelming firepower. Her debut in the mech is marked by a spectacular "missile massacre" ground attack, establishing her as a master of heavy weapons. Her physical abilities from her street-fighting days translate directly into her piloting skills, making her an aggressive and powerful combatant. She is described as having a fiery soul, matching the explosive nature of her preferred combat style.
