Takanori Hoshino
Description
Takanori Hoshino is a Japanese voice actor and actor born on May 8, 1980, in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. He is affiliated with the talent agency Office PAC, now PACage. His journey into the performing arts was notably inspired by a close friend who passed away in the Great Hanshin earthquake, leading him to join his school's drama club. He first gained attention through a voice actor segment on the variety program Gakkou e Ikou!, where he was known by the nickname Noppo, a reference to his tall stature. Standing approximately 190 cm tall, he is one of the taller figures in the industry.
Hoshino made his professional debut in 2002 and has since built a prolific career across anime, video games, and foreign language dubbing. He is recognized for his deep, resonant bass voice, which allows him to portray a wide range of characters, from stoic heroes to powerful villains. One of his most iconic and enduring roles is Jack Atlas in the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise, starting with Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds and later reprising the role in Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V and various video games. Another significant early leading role was as Van in the anime Gun X Sword. In the world of video games, he is well-known as the voice of Iori Yagami in The King of Fighters series, taking over the role beginning with The King of Fighters XIV.
His filmography includes a wide array of supporting and recurring characters in major anime series. He has voiced Nobuyuki Kai in the Haikyu!! franchise, Katsuya Serizawa in Mob Psycho 100 II and III, Akihiro Hirata in Run with the Wind, and Mitabi Jarnach in Attack on Titan. Other notable credits include Iwao Minamiya in Ancient Girl's Frame, Otsu Sawatari in Zombie-Loan, Samwan Kaioh in Baki, Alan Wyatt in Hero Mask, Oscar in the Netflix anime Exception, and roles in series such as Overlord IV and Pokémon Generations. He has also contributed to the Genshin Impact game as the voice of Pantalone.
Beyond anime and games, Hoshino is highly active in the field of dubbing foreign films and series. He is the regular Japanese dubbing voice for actor Henry Cavill, lending his voice to his performances as Superman in the DC Extended Universe films, as well as in Enola Holmes and The Witcher series. He also frequently dubs for actor John Krasinski. In a significant and rare achievement, Hoshino was appointed as the third official Japanese voice of the Disney character Mickey Mouse in 8, a role he continues to perform for all Disney products in Japan. His work also extends to the stage, where he has participated in theater and opera productions, and he runs his own voice performance and arts laboratory, VORPAL.
