Description
Koichi Kago is a supporting character in the anime Medalist. He is the husband of Meiko Kago and the father of a daughter named Yoh. By profession, he is a company president, or CEO. In the story, he is a figure from Tsukasa Akeuraji’s past; Tsukasa once received support from Koichi and his wife during his own figure skating career. Later, Koichi plays a vital role in Tsukasa’s new path as a coach. He allows Tsukasa to live in his family home, significantly reducing Tsukasa’s living expenses and making it financially possible for him to dedicate himself fully to coaching the young skater Inori Yuitsuka. This practical support directly enables the central coaching relationship of the story. Koichi’s personality is warm, parental, and sometimes overly enthusiastic, providing a source of emotional encouragement and occasional comedic relief through his exaggerated protective or supportive behavior toward Tsukasa and Inori. His motivation stems from a genuine desire to help Tsukasa pursue his coaching goals and, by extension, support Inori’s dream of becoming a champion. Along with his daughter Yoh, he also serves as an audience surrogate within the narrative, experiencing the world of competitive figure skating from a beginner’s perspective and learning about the sport alongside the viewer. His key relationship is with Tsukasa, whom he treats almost like a member of the family by offering financial stability and a home, thereby removing a major obstacle that would otherwise prevent Tsukasa from continuing his work. His notable abilities are not athletic but practical and emotional: he provides the financial backing, shelter, and moral support that form the foundation for Tsukasa and Inori’s progress. Koichi’s own development is tied to his growing understanding of the skating world and his deepening commitment to the people he supports. He is a figure with brown hair and grey eyes and is of Japanese nationality.
