Description
Akihiro Hirata, nicknamed Nico-chan, studies science and engineering as a third-year student at Kansei University and lives in Room 104 of Chikuseiso dormitory. He stands as the tallest resident there, possessing a muscular build, chin-length brown hair usually tied in a low ponytail, and light facial stubble. During high school, he participated in track and field but left due to disagreements with his coach.
The origin of "Nico-chan" traces back to his past cigarette addiction, with "Nico" alluding to nicotine. Dorm mates frequently replaced his name on chore charts with cigarette doodles. After joining the university track team, he quit smoking and channeled his energy into wire sculpting, crafting numerous small metal figurines. Teammate Yukihiko Iwakura later sold these creations to fundraise for the team.
Though initially seeming reserved and distant, Hirata maintains rigorous dedication to running. He articulates that running renders him "clean" and "pure white," offering temporary relief from his burdens. Despite his quiet demeanor, he mentors fellow runners by sharing technical insights from his high school experience. He champions confronting challenges directly, stating: "It takes courage to face something head on."
His journey involves reigniting his passion for running through the team's shared efforts. He expresses astonishment at rediscovering the thrill of race starts, remarking, "That feeling when you start, I never thought I'd get to taste that again." This renewed zeal drives him to abandon smoking and actively support the team's preparations for the Hakone Ekiden marathon relay. Drawing from his background as a runner, he offers practical training guidance while reconciling his own history with the sport.
