Description
Jin Tsurasawa is a central figure in the story, a young man with pale skin and short, white hair that starkly contrasts with his partner Jo Katsuragi. As the son of a politician, his background places him within a specific social strata, though his actions lead him far from that life. He is a former member of Phantom, an elite mercenary force, where he served as Jo's partner.
On the surface, Jin is charming, smooth-talking, and ambitious, often presenting a fatherly or protective demeanor towards those he is with. He is more conversational than his taciturn partner Jo, yet despite his talkative nature, he rarely fully reveals his true thoughts or intentions, maintaining a layer of mystery around his inner world. This charismatic exterior hides a much more calculating and ruthless core.
Initially, Jin and Jo break from Phantom to protect a young girl named Sana, with Jin appearing to be the mastermind behind her rescue and subsequent flight. His stated motivations involve revenge, but this is later revealed to be a temporary and shallow justification. In truth, his allegiance remains with the military, and his actions are driven by selfish and hidden goals. He does not truly care for Sana or Jo, instead viewing them merely as tools to achieve his own ends. This deception runs deep, as he carries the dark secret of having personally killed Sana's father.
Jealousy is a significant component of his character; he envies Jo for his innate ability to control his mecha, a skill that Jin cannot match despite his own considerable talents. His role in the narrative is that of the leader of the main group, directing Jo's actions and making strategic decisions as they flee from Phantom. While not seen piloting his gladiator mecha as frequently as Jo, Jin is nonetheless a fierce and highly skilled warrior, showcasing exceptional intelligence and piloting ability in combat situations. Throughout the story, the disparity between his amiable, protective facade and his true, manipulative nature forms the core of his character development, culminating in the revelation of his betrayal and his real, self-serving agenda.
