Kogorou Akechi, known simply as Akechi, is a central figure in the anime. He is a seventeen-year-old genius detective whose full name is revealed to be Akechi Kogoro. Akechi holds a unique position as a government-sanctioned minor detective, officially recognized by the Imperial Household Agency, which grants him special permission to be absent from high school in order to dedicate himself to solving difficult or unusual criminal cases.
