TV-Series
Description
Yamato Kurosawa is a tall, 185 cm high school student with black hair reaching his neck and bangs swept to the side. He begins as a second-year student at Toumei High School before advancing to his third year. Born on June 6th, he is a Gemini.
A formative event occurred in middle school when he witnessed a friend being bullied. Fearful of becoming a target himself, he avoided public association but secretly maintained the friendship. When the friend transferred schools after thanking him, Yamato was left with lasting guilt that profoundly motivated his later protective instincts and empathetic personality, driving him to prioritize the needs of others, especially those he cares about.
His life shifts dramatically after encountering Mei Tachibana. Their first meeting is chaotic: his friend lifts her skirt, leading her to kick him; Yamato apologizes and gives her his number. Days later, when Mei faces a stalker during a karaoke outing, she contacts him. He rushes to help, pretends to be her boyfriend, and kisses her to deter the stalker – unaware this is her first kiss, a fact he later regrets. Despite Mei's reserved and sometimes gloomy nature, he develops a deep interest, leading to a romantic relationship. He consistently affirms his feelings through words and actions, even confronting friends who upset her, including punching one who caused her distress. Their relationship becomes physically intimate in Chapter 39 on her birthday. They eventually marry, with Mei taking his surname, and have a son named Ken Kurosawa.
Yamato navigates complex relationships. He feels jealousy towards Kai Takemura, his bullied middle school friend, when Kai bonds with Mei over shared bullying experiences. Although Yamato punches Kai over reckless behavior, they reconcile after Kai steps aside romantically. With Asami Oikawa, whom he once kissed to stop her bullying in middle school, he clarifies his lack of romantic feelings; they remain friends, and she supports his relationship with Mei. He rejects superficial advances, notably from Megumi Kitagawa, who tries to sabotage his relationship with rumors and modeling collaborations. Despite Megumi's manipulations and his failure to explicitly shut down her flirtations during outings, he prioritizes Mei. His protective nature extends to his younger sister, Nagi Kurosawa, who initially resents Mei but accepts her after bonding over similar experiences with false friends. Yamato gives Nagi a stuffed rabbit named "Yamato #2" as a substitute companion. He shares a generally positive relationship with his older brother, Daichi Kurosawa. His best friend, Kenji Nakanishi, inadvertently catalyzes his relationship with Mei through the skirt-lifting incident.
After high school, Yamato pursues photography as a career, initially balancing college photo club commitments with his relationship. In college, a female classmate repeatedly makes advances, commenting on his attractiveness and lamenting his relationship status, but he does not establish clear boundaries, carrying her shopping bags and photographing her during trips.
His name carries symbolic weight: "Yamato" means "great harmony" or "ancient Japan," while "Kurosawa" combines "black" and "marsh." Notable trivia includes rumors about him kissing nearly every girl at school except Miki Arai, owning a female pet cat named Kuro, wearing reading glasses despite typically using contacts, and being one year older than Mei.
Quotations reflecting his character include asking Mei, "Do you love me?" and stating, "When it comes to people you really love, you don't care about yourself," emphasizing his selfless approach to love.
